It’s the story of our lives lately: Once we were parked at our campsite here in Meredith, NH, we drove half an hour south to try to see the Canterbury Shaker Village and it was closed. We had missed it by nine days. I was taking pictures from the street until I met an employee who gave us permission to walk around the grounds. We couldn’t go into the houses, but I tried taking some pictures through the windows. This day is dedicated to my sister, Sherill, who first told me about the Shakers back in the late 1970’s. We left Old Forge, NY this morning and continued eastward through the Adirondack Mountains. The further in we got, the prettier the scenery. As soon as we hit I-87, our GPS sent us north on it. I said, “Really? I was expecting to keep heading east on 8.” Mark was just happy to be on a highway again, but when I found out that the GPS was going to send us ninety miles out of the way, I asked Mark to turn off at the next exit. He was skeptical, but he made the turn. As soon as he did, our ETA went from sometime after 4:00 to sometime before 3:00, and the roads weren’t as bad as he had expected. I just didn’t want to waste the gas to go almost up to the Quebec border and then have to come back down the other side to a place not far from us! Continue reading

This will be our last night in New York. Old Forge is in the Adirondacks. It was a shorter drive to get here today and fairly uneventful. I only have a few pictures this time. Continue reading

This morning we touched three states before noon. If only we’d been going in the right direction! We wanted to avoid taking the toll road that runs across Pennsylvania, so I thought I programmed our first stop in Morgantown, WV. What I actually clicked on was Morgantown, KY. There ought to be a law that states can’t use the same names for their towns! We figured out our mistake when we hit Ohio again and we turned around, but by the time we got back to our starting point in Washington, PA, it was already 12:30 pm. Continue reading

Had we not reached our campsite in the dark last night, I could have shown a bit more what Ohio looks like. As it is, within about half an hour after paying for our campsite this morning, we were out of Ohio. I paid in the Bob Evans homestead museum which is right next to the first Bob Evans restaurant, and they said I had to at least get something from the restaurant so I could have bragging rights to having eaten at the first Bob Evans restaurant. I went in and got Mark a cinnamon roll and myself a cornmeal muffin, so there! Continue reading

Today we had an extra long day of driving, especially since we crossed over into Eastern Time. I don’t believe we’ll be back in Central Time till our return trip to Wisconsin. For those of you in the Pacific NW, if you want to call us, remember that we are now three hours ahead of you. Continue reading

I’m writing this the morning after we arrived in Tennessee because we were out last evening. After missing turns and being stuck in rush hour traffic, we found our KOA and parked the RV, then unhooked the truck and drove into Nashville. We had a ticket reservation for a backstage tour at the Grand Ole Opry, but that didn’t go entirely as planned… Continue reading

I haven’t mentioned that everywhere we stop to spend the night, we’ve been leaving RVIC (RV Inspection Connection) brochures. This morning I left a couple in the office where we were staying and the owner of the campground said she has a son that is working at Home Depot that she needs to be able to get back working in the campground. She said maybe he could learn to do RV inspections, so I went back to our RV and got a brochure for her to show him on how to become an RV inspector. I hope he does get the training. Steve and Coop need more inspectors. Continue reading

Fortunately, we didn’t have to drive as long today. This was fortunate because we had to load everything up again after several days of being able to spread out a bit. We stopped in briefly at the Workamper News office to thank them for the conference and then we tried to take a different route out of Heber Springs. Continue reading

One problem with having to be somewhere at a certain time is that you don’t have time to really stop for pictures. Mark and I had a long push today to make it for the 2nd Annual NRVIA Conference which starts tomorrow. Actually, tomorrow is a training for me and the conference itself starts on Saturday. At least we get to stay in one place for a few nights, which is lovely. It means we get to take things out of the sinks and actually use them and bump out both slide outs so that the RV feels more spacious again. Continue reading
