All Saints Day

Because we arrived at this campground last night in the midst of their Halloween activities we didn’t get a chance to actually get registered.  So this morning before church we went to the office.  It was closed and a man who was working outside said that they didn’t open till 9:00 AM.  I had thought it was 9:00 so I looked at him quizzically and he said, “The time changed last night.”  Ah!  Being on the road I hadn’t kept up with when the time change was going to happen.  We came back an hour later and completed our registration. This morning we touched three states before noon.  If only we’d been going in the right direction!  We wanted to avoid taking the toll road that runs across Pennsylvania, so I thought I programmed our first stop in Morgantown, WV.  What I actually clicked on was Morgantown, KY.  There ought to be a law that states can’t use the same names for their towns!  We figured out our mistake when we hit Ohio again and we turned around, but by the time we got back to our starting point in Washington, PA, it was already 12:30 pm.   Continue reading →

Had we not reached our campsite in the dark last night, I could have shown a bit more what Ohio looks like.  As it is, within about half an hour after paying for our campsite this morning, we were out of Ohio.  I paid in the Bob Evans homestead museum which is right next to the first Bob Evans restaurant, and they said I had to at least get something from the restaurant so I could have bragging rights to having eaten at the first Bob Evans restaurant.  I went in and got Mark a cinnamon roll and myself a cornmeal muffin, so there! Today we had an extra long day of driving, especially since we crossed over into Eastern Time.  I don’t believe we’ll be back in Central Time till our return trip to Wisconsin.  For those of you in the Pacific NW, if you want to call us, remember that we are now three hours ahead of you. From Goodlettsville, TN

I’m writing this the morning after we arrived in Tennessee because we were out last evening.  After missing turns and being stuck in rush hour traffic, we found our KOA and parked the RV, then unhooked the truck and drove into Nashville.  We had a ticket reservation for a backstage tour at the Grand Ole Opry, but that didn’t go entirely as planned… Continue reading →

I haven’t mentioned that everywhere we stop to spend the night, we’ve been leaving RVIC (RV Inspection Connection) brochures.  This morning I left a couple in the office where we were staying and the owner of the campground said she has a son that is working at Home Depot that she needs to be able to get back working in the campground.  She said maybe he could learn to do RV inspections, so I went back to our RV and got a brochure for her to show him on how to become an RV inspector.  I hope he does get the training.  Steve and Coop need more inspectors. From Poplar Bluff, MO

Fortunately, we didn’t have to drive as long today.  This was fortunate because we had to load everything up again after several days of being able to spread out a bit.  We stopped in briefly at the Workamper News office to thank them for the conference and then we tried to take a different route out of Heber Springs.   Continue reading →

2nd Annual NRVIA Conference: Day 2

This being Sunday, today began with Scripture reading and prayer.  I just can’t get over the fact that Steve and Coop are so open about this organization being built on faith in God.  How many organizations that aren’t specifically church related actually include God in the course of their business meetings?  I admire them for doing this. 2nd Annual NRVIA Conference: Day 1

We all arrived at 8:00 this morning to the Heber Springs Community Center where the conference is being held.  The doors weren’t open yet so we all mingled in the hallways and looked at the vendor tables.  They finally opened the doors around 8:45 and I found a table near the front so I could see without a lot of heads in my way. NRVIA training

We had an opportunity to sleep in this morning which helped considerably when we went to the training this afternoon.  The training ran from 1:00 to about 5:45 and it mostly covered stuff we had already learned about how to do an inspection report.  There have been some improvements made to the template even since we did our mock inspections this summer, so it was good to see those.  They also acknowledged some of the glitches I had been having trouble with when I did the reports from our mock inspections but didn’t seem to have fixes for those yet.   Continue reading →
