Umm, we’re here

My bad for not writing this sooner. We actually got to Tucson on Sunday afternoon, but we’ve been so busy that I haven’t had time to write. Some of you have been asking where we are, so that has prompted me to write the final chapter on this trip.

Too many J-1s?

I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned that we now have a third J-1 daughter. Our first one was Kayla from Jamaica. Then we got Casie from Mongolia. Just recently, we got Aleksandra from Bulgaria. Tonight, all three of them were off work and asked if we could take them down to Walmart in Sturgeon Bay. We did that, and then we had an opportunity to take them to dinner and on a little tour.

Introduction to our new daughters

We were waiting to be assigned a couple of J-1 students, some have yet to arrive, when I went to Piggly Wiggly and started a conversation with my Jamaican cashier. I asked if she was signed up for an American Connection family and she said she had just registered but she didn’t know what it was about. I explained what American Connection families do for the students who arrived here, and she asked if we’d be her family.

From Hardin, MT

Going through Montana today reminded me of the train trip Mom and I took from Portland to Wisconsin several years ago. We were in a sleeper car, and a woman in the next room to us came to our door as we were crossing Montana and said, “Are we ever going to get out of Montana?” It seems to go on and on forever!

From Butte, MT

It’s funny what a big difference a few miles can make.  When we were on the train going through Montana up near the border of Canada, everyone onboard started getting bored with the monotony of it after Glacier National Park.  We’re just a little further south, and it was a much more interesting landscape going across today.  The weather was perfect; almost balmy even!
