I didn’t get a chance to mention that all of us women were invited over to the Cooper’s RV yesterday afternoon for a “Kitchen class”. I had no idea what a kitchen class would be. They have a brand new Redwood and it’s very fancy but out of our price range. The kitchen class mostly consisted of showing off various features of the kitchen. Then one of the women changed the subject to questions she had about this week of training and things got a lot more interesting. I learned more from that discussion than I did from the class. Mark has told me that when he was a long-haul trucker, he never made it through Austin without going through stop-and-go traffic. There was even a time when it took him three hours to get through Austin. This being Sunday, we decided to get up early and try to get through Austin before noon. Continue reading
A day of training
Today Mark and I drove to the warehouse/office of Holiday Hills Christmas Trees for a day of training. Today’s training was supposed to be just for first time lot operators, but there was a couple there who did this last year. They came to support a couple of new recruits they brought in. They were able to add some ideas from their experience, so it was a good thing to have them there. Continue reading

This morning was our last at Falster Farm. We fed all the animals one last time and I took my last pictures of the place. We managed to get out through the pasture and get my car loaded onto the tow dolly, but not without wrecking the bumper of my car. We’ve been having a heck of a time with our vehicles lately! Continue reading

Tonight we are staying in a cabin on Falster Farm (http://falsterfarm.com/). We had to leave our RV out on the road for the night. I’ll explain later. Continue reading

Last night we slept with the windows open all night, and this morning we kept hearing an occasional Thwok! sound. We figured out it was a bird trying to get in our window, but we couldn’t actually see him till we sat down for breakfast. He came right up and sat on our window ledge for probably half a minute or so, having a good look at us as though we were animals in the zoo. We said hello to him and he flew into the tree next to our window. Continue reading

We planned a short day of travel today and it was a good thing. This morning Mark was catching a heavy crosswind from the southeast that made driving difficult. We stopped once to get gas and a little after that we stopped at a rest area so he could relax his grip. Fortunately, as soon as we left the rest area the highway turned southeast so the wind wasn’t hitting us broadside. Continue reading
From Newton Hills State Park, SD
In case you’ve been following our journey in your road atlas, here’s the route we took today: We drove east from Jamestown, ND to Fargo, ND. Then we turned due south and made a stop at Home Depot in Sioux Falls, SD. From there we continued south for a few more miles and took the exit east to Canton, which on my map appears to be right on the border with Iowa. Then we turned south a little way further to Newton Hills State Park. Technically I suppose I could have put Canton, SD in the subject heading, but we’re actually not that close to Canton. So now that you know where we are, here is today’s story: Continue reading

This morning we stopped in at Bob’s Body Shop on our way out of Glendive to have him remove the tape that was holding our windshield in place while the glue dried. He told Mark to turn on the defrost and warm the windshield up to make sure the glue was set. From Glendive to the border of North Dakota is about fifty miles. We didn’t even make it out of Montana before a rock hit the new windshield and chipped it. I really dislike Montana! Continue reading
Potluck
There was a potluck scheduled for 2:00 here in the fairgrounds this afternoon. The afternoon started out warm but breezy, I think everyone came, and there was lots of good food. Continue reading
