Mark has told me that when he was a long-haul trucker, he never made it through Austin without going through stop-and-go traffic. There was even a time when it took him three hours to get through Austin. This being Sunday, we decided to get up early and try to get through Austin before noon.
We got to Austin before the churches were even open and we sailed through…until we got to the northern edge of the city. Then there were markers directing all traffic to get off the highway. When you take three lanes of traffic and make everyone exit on a single lane off ramp, you get stop-and-go traffic. I guess what was happening was that they were putting in the pillars for a new overhead pass, but we never actually got to see what was going on. We spent a number of miles on a detour at a snails pace. The last town we went through on the detour was historic Georgetown. The houses were really nice. I bet they never saw so much traffic on their street before!
We finally got back onto the highway and the rest of the trip was fairly uneventful. I saw a couple interesting sounding churches on our trip: The Open Road Biker’s Church and the Kaufmann Cowboy Church. Both of them sounded like Mark’s kind of church!
We got back to where we’d left our RV at Mill Creek Ranch Resort. When we first parked here on Friday we were the only ones in this part of the park. When we came back this area was filling up with other Workampers who are going to be taking the RV Tech course with Mark. Mark wasn’t impressed, but I got a little thrill when I saw the official Workamper.com RV and car come in. That would be the course instructor, Terry Cooper. I’m excited for Mark to get this training that he’s been wanting ever since they first developed it a couple years ago!
I had a lot of housework to catch up on when we got home including laundry. While I was waiting for a load of laundry I took our camera around the park and took pictures:
