Date night!

It seems like every year that I have worked for H&R Block/Block Advisors, there has been a hitch in my hiring at the beginning of the season, and this year is no exception. I tried all week to get things worked out so that I could start my training and things have progressed, but as of yesterday, I still couldn’t get into my training.

A new family member

Door County businesses have a difficult time getting enough workers to help during the tourist season, so there is a program where university students from other countries can come here and work.  There is also a coalition of churches here called Bridges that recruits Christian families to sort of “adopt” these international students for the summer.  Mark and I did it last year and they asked us to do it again this year.  We accepted. Summer is finally here!

As of today, we have finally entered summer.  You may be thinking I’m off by a few days, but what I mean is that today we finally hit temperatures in the mid-70s.  Looking at the future forecast, it would appear that it will be in the 70s and 80s for the foreseeable future! Continue reading

From Lumberton, NC

Our day did not start out well.  You may recall that when we tried to park in our campsite last night, there was a truck parked there and Mark had to honk for a while to get the owner to come out and move it.  This morning as we were packing up, a woman with a clipboard came by and told us that the next camper for our space was there.  We were supposed to have a checkout time of 11:00.  It was only 10:30.
