Happy Friday the Thirteenth!

Friday the thirteenth has been a lucky day for Mark and me ever since we eloped in June of 2008.  Today was fairly lucky for me too.  I found some information on my Westcott ancestors. Continue reading

From Middletown, RI

This morning’s drive was our shortest yet.  It took us just under an hour to get from Middleborough, MA to Middletown, RI!  We plan on staying here for two nights so I can research some of my family history.  By the way, before we left our campsite this morning, we found out that the weather we experienced yesterday was only a very mild nor’easter.  I’d hate to see a normal one! From Middleborough, MA

Today we touched on three states: Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.  The weather was extremely wet and windy, but we intrepid travelers managed to get some sightseeing in before dark.  I must say, though, that I’ve noticed in the last several days that the sky seems to start darkening around 3:00 in the afternoon.  It may not be completely dark till 5:00, but it does make for some rather dismal pictures. From Shelburne, VT

We left Old Forge, NY this morning and continued eastward through the Adirondack Mountains.  The further in we got, the prettier the scenery.  As soon as we hit I-87, our GPS sent us north on it.  I said, “Really?  I was expecting to keep heading east on 8.”  Mark was just happy to be on a highway again, but when I found out that the GPS was going to send us ninety miles out of the way, I asked Mark to turn off at the next exit.  He was skeptical, but he made the turn.  As soon as he did, our ETA went from sometime after 4:00 to sometime before 3:00, and the roads weren’t as bad as he had expected.  I just didn’t want to waste the gas to go almost up to the Quebec border and then have to come back down the other side to a place not far from us! From Washington, PA

Had we not reached our campsite in the dark last night, I could have shown a bit more what Ohio looks like.  As it is, within about half an hour after paying for our campsite this morning, we were out of Ohio.  I paid in the Bob Evans homestead museum which is right next to the first Bob Evans restaurant, and they said I had to at least get something from the restaurant so I could have bragging rights to having eaten at the first Bob Evans restaurant.  I went in and got Mark a cinnamon roll and myself a cornmeal muffin, so there! From Poplar Bluff, MO

Fortunately, we didn’t have to drive as long today.  This was fortunate because we had to load everything up again after several days of being able to spread out a bit.  We stopped in briefly at the Workamper News office to thank them for the conference and then we tried to take a different route out of Heber Springs.   Continue reading

2nd Annual NRVIA Conference: Day 2

This being Sunday, today began with Scripture reading and prayer.  I just can’t get over the fact that Steve and Coop are so open about this organization being built on faith in God.  How many organizations that aren’t specifically church related actually include God in the course of their business meetings?  I admire them for doing this. NRVIA training

We had an opportunity to sleep in this morning which helped considerably when we went to the training this afternoon.  The training ran from 1:00 to about 5:45 and it mostly covered stuff we had already learned about how to do an inspection report.  There have been some improvements made to the template even since we did our mock inspections this summer, so it was good to see those.  They also acknowledged some of the glitches I had been having trouble with when I did the reports from our mock inspections but didn’t seem to have fixes for those yet.   Continue reading

From Heber Springs, AR

One problem with having to be somewhere at a certain time is that you don’t have time to really stop for pictures.  Mark and I had a long push today to make it for the 2nd Annual NRVIA Conference which starts tomorrow.  Actually, tomorrow is a training for me and the conference itself starts on Saturday.  At least we get to stay in one place for a few nights, which is lovely.  It means we get to take things out of the sinks and actually use them and bump out both slide outs so that the RV feels more spacious again.   Continue reading

From Granite City, IL

This morning was the highlight of the whole day.  We met a second cousin of mine, Andrea Brim, for breakfast.  She suggested we meet at the restaurant on the top floor of IKEA.  I hadn’t realized they had restaurants in IKEA stores, but it was a cafeteria style place where you could buy a plate full of breakfast for $1!
