Today we touched on three states: Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The weather was extremely wet and windy, but we intrepid travelers managed to get some sightseeing in before dark. I must say, though, that I’ve noticed in the last several days that the sky seems to start darkening around 3:00 in the afternoon. It may not be completely dark till 5:00, but it does make for some rather dismal pictures. Continue reading

Sometimes dreams really do come true! When I was in high school, a friend of mine and I got our hands on a road atlas and began dreaming about taking a trip around the country. One place I desperately wanted go was Portland, Maine so that I could say I’d been to Portland’s on both sides of the country. Today I fulfilled that dream, in a manner of speaking. But my sister, Sherill, had also advised me on other places in Maine to see. We sort of got to do that. Continue reading
Back from Minett, Ontario, Canada
We drove into Canada yesterday and lost touch with the rest of North America. Our GPS didn’t work, nor did our cell phone or our hot spot, so I have a couple days worth to report tonight. I’m warning you this might be long because we saw a lot!
All Saints Day
Because we arrived at this campground last night in the midst of their Halloween activities we didn’t get a chance to actually get registered. So this morning before church we went to the office. It was closed and a man who was working outside said that they didn’t open till 9:00 AM. I had thought it was 9:00 so I looked at him quizzically and he said, “The time changed last night.” Ah! Being on the road I hadn’t kept up with when the time change was going to happen. We came back an hour later and completed our registration. Continue reading

Had we not reached our campsite in the dark last night, I could have shown a bit more what Ohio looks like. As it is, within about half an hour after paying for our campsite this morning, we were out of Ohio. I paid in the Bob Evans homestead museum which is right next to the first Bob Evans restaurant, and they said I had to at least get something from the restaurant so I could have bragging rights to having eaten at the first Bob Evans restaurant. I went in and got Mark a cinnamon roll and myself a cornmeal muffin, so there! Continue reading

Today we had an extra long day of driving, especially since we crossed over into Eastern Time. I don’t believe we’ll be back in Central Time till our return trip to Wisconsin. For those of you in the Pacific NW, if you want to call us, remember that we are now three hours ahead of you. Continue reading
From Poplar Bluff, MO
Fortunately, we didn’t have to drive as long today. This was fortunate because we had to load everything up again after several days of being able to spread out a bit. We stopped in briefly at the Workamper News office to thank them for the conference and then we tried to take a different route out of Heber Springs. Continue reading
2nd Annual NRVIA Conference: Day 2
This being Sunday, today began with Scripture reading and prayer. I just can’t get over the fact that Steve and Coop are so open about this organization being built on faith in God. How many organizations that aren’t specifically church related actually include God in the course of their business meetings? I admire them for doing this. Continue reading
2nd Annual NRVIA Conference: Day 1
We all arrived at 8:00 this morning to the Heber Springs Community Center where the conference is being held. The doors weren’t open yet so we all mingled in the hallways and looked at the vendor tables. They finally opened the doors around 8:45 and I found a table near the front so I could see without a lot of heads in my way. Continue reading
NRVIA training
We had an opportunity to sleep in this morning which helped considerably when we went to the training this afternoon. The training ran from 1:00 to about 5:45 and it mostly covered stuff we had already learned about how to do an inspection report. There have been some improvements made to the template even since we did our mock inspections this summer, so it was good to see those. They also acknowledged some of the glitches I had been having trouble with when I did the reports from our mock inspections but didn’t seem to have fixes for those yet. Continue reading
