This morning, I texted with Wendy and she was doing well enough to have me come over. In fact, as Mark said later, other than the scarf on her head, she didn’t look sick. I was so happy to see her!

Tuesday in Oregon
This morning, Mark had put a collar and leash on Tucson to take her out and do her thing, but she got spooked by something and wouldn’t go out. He left the collar and leash on her when he left to get Mom and told me not to take Tucson out before he got back. Mark took Mom to the DEQ to get her license, but the line was so long that Mom decided to try again tomorrow and get there before they open, so Mark headed back to get me.

Last time, I left you with an image of our pantry and food all over the floor. Mark worked hard to rebuild it.

Yesterday morning, while I was at work, Serenity texted me and said that Jose’s father in El Salvador had just passed. They knew he was dying of cancer, so it wasn’t exactly a surprise, but you’re never really prepared for something like that. It was because his father was dying that Serenity and Jose pushed their wedding date up to December. I picked up some flowers after work and took them over to Jose, and Mark had just gone into their trailer to give Jose his condolences. Jose showed us videos that his nephew has been taking of the funeral.

Several weeks ago, we noticed that Kimba wasn’t finishing her food as she usually did. A couple of weeks ago, we were concerned enough to make an appointment for her to see a vet, but we couldn’t get her in until this last Monday. By then, she had stopped eating altogether and she was having difficulty breathing.

Serenity and I had some plans for today, starting with doing our laundry at the laundromat, but while we were there, I had a blood sugar drop, so Serenity suggested we just go back home and do something low-key today.

I was so proud of Tucson! The desk clerk last night was skeptical about having a German Shepherd in the hotel, but Tucson barely made a peep in the room. That’s not to say she didn’t try, but every time she started to growl or acted like she was about to bark, we shushed her and she obeyed!

Mark is down in the Green Bay area for a BACA meeting today, so I’ve just been enjoying the day at a leisurely pace!
Continue readingHow WWI and the Influenza Pandemic Changed Victorian Mourning Practices
The Noble House, where I work as a docent, puts out a bi-annual newsletter, and my boss has asked me to write articles along the theme of whatever our display is each year. We are doing A House in Mourning: Victorian Funerals this year, so last spring, she asked me to write an article about Lincoln, the Civil War, and embalming. This fall, she asked me what I would like to write about, and I suggested the topic of how WWI and the Influenza outbreak affected Victorian mourning practices. I see parallels between then and now.
Continue readingEar infection
I think I mentioned yesterday that I’ve been dealing with plugged ears and dizziness this week. I finally got in to see a doctor today and she said that I have an ear infection and may be coming down with a sinus infection as well. She gave me some medication for it. She says that weird things like this have been happening to people who have Covid. Please pray for me if you are of that persuasion!
