Mecca for Workampers

Today we drove up to Heber Springs, AR in our truck.  This is like going to Mecca for Workampers because that’s where the office of Workamper News is.  We needed to pick up some brochures and we wanted to meet the people we’ve been talking to for so long.  We also had a chance to see what all is in the Workamper store and Mark bought some RV maintenance DVDs. Long day

Mark’s class ended late last evening due to his final exam.  We didn’t actually make it to our lot in Kerrville until after 1:00am, and we didn’t pull inside the gate.  We didn’t hook up to electricity, we didn’t have any propane, and we didn’t have any water.  It was very cold last night. Work and play

In the business class this morning, we went over making a business plan.  I was so inspired that after class I drove to Walmart and got some supplies.  Steve said it should look nice, with pictures that illustrate what we plan to do.  I got a notebook, some page protectors, and some scrapbooking materials.  I made the cover before lunch, the title page after lunch, and worked on a brief resume for Mark and me.  Here are pictures: Continue reading

First day of school

From Canton, TX

Mark has told me that when he was a long-haul trucker, he never made it through Austin without going through stop-and-go traffic.  There was even a time when it took him three hours to get through Austin.  This being Sunday, we decided to get up early and try to get through Austin before noon. A day of training

Today Mark and I drove to the warehouse/office of Holiday Hills Christmas Trees for a day of training.  Today’s training was supposed to be just for first time lot operators, but there was a couple there who did this last year.  They came to support a couple of new recruits they brought in.  They were able to add some ideas from their experience, so it was a good thing to have them there. A bad ending

On our last day of work, as we were driving away, Mark and I had an impulse to stop at the beet pile where we almost got smished by the boom and toss our helmets as high as we could.  It was like tossing your graduation cap after spending several years of hard study.  It was like saying, “We were here!” Continue reading
