A day with Aunt Marg

I slept in this morning after having a less than stellar night of sleep, but then I had the first real shower I’ve had in over a year.  Those of you who don’t live in an RV may not understand what I mean by a “real” shower.  The water heater in our RV is something like six gallons, so while I’m lathering up I have to turn the shower head off.  It’s always a luxury to be able to stand in a hot shower throughout the time I’m washing. From De Pere, WI

I’ve been remiss in writing since we left Minneapolis last week.  When we first got to De Pere (just south west of Green Bay, WI) we had a couple deadlines hanging over our heads, and when we managed to get those done, there didn’t seem to be much to write about. Continue reading

From Minneapolis, MN

We arrived in Maple Grove, Minnesota where our KOA is and checked in on April 9th. We paid for our site and for a cabin a short distance from our site, got the key and a space heater for the cabin, turned the space heater and porch light on, and locked the door. The cabin is for my son, Jamey, who was just finishing up a work conference at the University of Minnesota. He had spent the two nights of his conference in a hotel, so he called us when it was over and we went to pick him up. Continue reading

Nauvoo, IL

OK, so here is a little LDS history:  Joseph Smith first brought his followers to a swampy bend in the Mississippi River and named the area Nauvoo, a Hebrew word meaning “the beautiful location”.  They drained the swamp and began building a well planned town, the second largest in the west at the time.  Chicago was the largest.  Continue reading

Last hurrah in San Antonio

I haven’t written in a while because my laptop hard drive began to fail and we took it in to get backed up and have a new hard drive put in.  Unfortunately, the backup couldn’t capture everything I had on the old hard drive so I’ve been having to rebuild my computer.  The last couple days we’ve been busy seeing about the last of everything we wanted to see while we’re here, so I have pictures to share: Continue reading

Starting the New Year out with new things

When my nephew, Nate, was young, my sister Lauryn decided to do the gift giving on New Years Eve so that the family could focus on Christ’s birth on Christmas.  She figured it would be appropriate to start the New Year with new things, so the biggest family party of the year has ever since been New Years Eve with Lauryn as the hostess extraordinaire.  The food was always fantastic, but the biggest event was the gift exchange, especially the white elephant exchange.  Her parties were always the highlight of the year. Family reunion

When we decided to spend a couple nights in Lynden, we knew that we would see Aunt Marg.  When my mother found out we’d be here for a couple nights, she and my stepfather came up from Portland to visit with us.  An unexpected pleasure was discovering that Mark’s mom and stepfather were staying in Birch Bay and wanted to see us.  Marg invited them for dinner at her house and we spent a very pleasant evening visiting. From Lynden, WA

Today wasn’t the best day for taking pictures.  We were so eager to get back to the US that we made very few stops, so mostly I just hung the camera out the window and shot at random.  The weather was pretty dismal too.  I had so hoped that we would get into some of that sunshine and heat we’ve been hearing about all summer down here. Continue reading

Bragging rights

Today was a very busy day and I was alone a good part of it.  I didn’t do too badly, and I actually sold a Good Sam membership!  Until today, I was the only one who hadn’t.  So I’m kind of proud of myself.  But not nearly as proud as I am of my nephew, Nate, who is a junior in high school.  Here is a report I got from my sister last night: Continue reading

Happy Mother’s Day!

This morning we had brunch at The Nuthouse with Aunt Marg, my mother and step-father, and my son and daughter-in-law.  I gave Mom a funny picture of Mark and me taken on the Big Wheel in Seattle with the wish that it might make her smile every time she looks at it.  I gave Aunt Marg a jigsaw puzzle of the Butchart Gardens so she will have something to do while she misses us.  We took pictures. Continue reading
