Yesterday morning, while I was at work, Serenity texted me and said that Jose’s father in El Salvador had just passed. They knew he was dying of cancer, so it wasn’t exactly a surprise, but you’re never really prepared for something like that. It was because his father was dying that Serenity and Jose pushed their wedding date up to December. I picked up some flowers after work and took them over to Jose, and Mark had just gone into their trailer to give Jose his condolences. Jose showed us videos that his nephew has been taking of the funeral.

Finally using my degree!
Most of you probably aren’t aware of this, but I got my BA in Pastoral Ministry at Marylhurst University in Oregon in 1990. I had hoped to become a pastoral counselor, but I went on for a Master’s in Art Therapy and dropped out just before I was supposed to do my practicum. I had volunteered, about a month ago, to be on a planning committee for some events at my church, and the first one was a Hawaiian-themed lunch after church today. The pastor’s wife, Allie, and I collaborated on decorations and she ordered a couple kinds of meat and then the women brought salads and side dishes and desserts.
Continue readingNW Community Friends Church – then and now
On May 10, 2010, an arsonist torched the NW Community Friends Church in Tucson, AZ. It is for this reason that the church lets us live behind the building when we are here. They are happy to have someone on the property at night to keep watch on things and they built several RV spots behind the church so that RVers could stay here.
