Visiting

My sister, Lauryn, has turned me on to a book called The Sacred Romance: Drawing Closer to the Heart of God by Brent Curtis and John Eldredge. I was reading this afternoon and one of the authors was talking about his grandfather taking him “visiting” on Sunday afternoons when he was young. My grandmother used to do the same with my sisters and me. I wonder, does anyone else have such fond memories of a bygone pastime?

In time for Christmas Eve

Usually, Mark and I wait until Christmas Eve day to get our presents for each other at the Dollar Tree, but we weren’t sure if Mark would be working the day shift and me the evening shift on Christmas Eve, so we did our shopping yesterday.  Then I was going to have us wait to wrap them on Christmas Eve, but Mark threatened to go looking for what I’d gotten him, so we wrapped them yesterday too! I passed!

This morning Mark and I went over to Mom’s house.  She made lunch for us and started an unintentional fire, but Mark’s quick thinking saved the day.  After lunch, he stayed and fixed her garbage disposal which hasn’t worked in several years.  This afternoon, he was called to work. Continue reading

In the middle of the night last night, sometime between 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning, we woke up to the sound of a couple fighting loudly outside our room.  I think they had at least one teenaged son because I heard him tell his dad that he’d found something.  I almost wondered if he was trying to pacify his dad to get him to stop yelling.  It was rather upsetting.
