From De Pere, WI

I’ve been remiss in writing since we left Minneapolis last week.  When we first got to De Pere (just south west of Green Bay, WI) we had a couple deadlines hanging over our heads, and when we managed to get those done, there didn’t seem to be much to write about. Continue reading

From Minneapolis, MN

We arrived in Maple Grove, Minnesota where our KOA is and checked in on April 9th. We paid for our site and for a cabin a short distance from our site, got the key and a space heater for the cabin, turned the space heater and porch light on, and locked the door. The cabin is for my son, Jamey, who was just finishing up a work conference at the University of Minnesota. He had spent the two nights of his conference in a hotel, so he called us when it was over and we went to pick him up. Continue reading

Nauvoo, IL

OK, so here is a little LDS history:  Joseph Smith first brought his followers to a swampy bend in the Mississippi River and named the area Nauvoo, a Hebrew word meaning “the beautiful location”.  They drained the swamp and began building a well planned town, the second largest in the west at the time.  Chicago was the largest.  Continue reading

Hannibal, MO

I haven’t written for several days because we’ve been working on an inspection of our RV, but this afternoon we took some time off to drive into Hannibal, Missouri from our campground in Monroe City.  There is so much more we would have liked to see, such as the home of the “Unsinkable Molly Brown”, but we only had an hour to look around after having lunch at the Mark Twain Dinette, famous for their Mark Twain fried chicken and homemade root beer.  We went to the historic area where Mark Twain’s home and those of his friends are located. From West Memphis, AR

In Graceland, in Graceland
I’m going to Graceland
For reasons I cannot explain
There’s some part of me wants to see Graceland
And I may be obliged to defend
Every love, every ending
Or maybe there’s no obligations now
Maybe I’ve a reason to believe
We all will be received
In Graceland

From Little Rock, AR

Last night several of us class members initiated a new fire ring Mark and I got and roasted marshmallows.  We stayed up late talking, and then this morning everyone helped each other get ready to leave.  Ricky and Mike helped Mark load his Harley into the truck and then we said our goodbyes to them.  Lance drove by and wished us luck in our business and safety in our travels.  Then I went over to Bob and Sally’s RV and knocked on the door.  Bob came out and chatted with us for a while.  He said he would recommend all of us to RVIC if we all wanted to contract with them.  After all the goodbyes, we hit the road. Continue reading

Natchitoches at last!

We actually left Lafayette yesterday and arrived in Natchitoches last night.  I enjoyed the scenery but I didn’t get any pictures.  I still don’t have any pictures because Mark and I have been getting ready for the class we’re going to take here starting tomorrow morning. Continue reading

Louisiana culture

For a state where every other billboard seems to be about a casino, most of the towns in this area close up on Sundays.  This is a good thing except that today was our last day in the Lafayette area and I wanted to see as much as I could see.  Continue reading

Galveston, Oh Galveston!

Yesterday Mark and I left the San Antonio area and spent the night in Port Aransas, an island just off the coast of Corpus Christi.  It was a typical beach town, but we were in a tightly packed RV park away from the beach.  I was uninspired there, but I took a few pictures.  Continue reading
