In Graceland, in Graceland
I’m going to Graceland
For reasons I cannot explain
There’s some part of me wants to see Graceland
And I may be obliged to defend
Every love, every ending
Or maybe there’s no obligations now
Maybe I’ve a reason to believe
We all will be received
In Graceland
Graceland – By Paul Simon
We made a short day of it today as far as drive time, but as soon as we got to our campsite in West Memphis, Arkansas — right on the Mississippi River — we didn’t even take time to hook up. We took the bridge over to Memphis, Tennessee to see Elvis Presley’s Graceland. Rather than using words, let me use pictures to tell this story:
Crossing the Mississippi River
Here we are!
Elvis’s Graceland
From inside the entry hall
Mark and the King!
The living room
Elvis grew up in poverty, but he promised his parents he’d take care of them. This is their bedroom.
The dining room
The TV room
The pool room…The walls and ceiling are all covered with pleated fabric!
The famous “Jungle Room” with a waterfall wall.
All Elvis’s gold records!
Some of Elvis’s costumes
Elvis played this piano while some friends listened, then went to take a nap. Later that same day he died.
Elvis was first buried beside his mother in a local cemetery, but for security reasons, the graves of Elvis, his parents, his brother and his grandmother have been brought to Graceland.
