When we decided to spend a couple nights in Lynden, we knew that we would see Aunt Marg. When my mother found out we’d be here for a couple nights, she and my stepfather came up from Portland to visit with us. An unexpected pleasure was discovering that Mark’s mom and stepfather were staying in Birch Bay and wanted to see us. Marg invited them for dinner at her house and we spent a very pleasant evening visiting. Continue reading

From Lynden, WA
Today wasn’t the best day for taking pictures. We were so eager to get back to the US that we made very few stops, so mostly I just hung the camera out the window and shot at random. The weather was pretty dismal too. I had so hoped that we would get into some of that sunshine and heat we’ve been hearing about all summer down here. Continue reading
Bragging rights
Today was a very busy day and I was alone a good part of it. I didn’t do too badly, and I actually sold a Good Sam membership! Until today, I was the only one who hadn’t. So I’m kind of proud of myself. But not nearly as proud as I am of my nephew, Nate, who is a junior in high school. Here is a report I got from my sister last night: Continue reading
Happy Mother’s Day!
This morning we had brunch at The Nuthouse with Aunt Marg, my mother and step-father, and my son and daughter-in-law. I gave Mom a funny picture of Mark and me taken on the Big Wheel in Seattle with the wish that it might make her smile every time she looks at it. I gave Aunt Marg a jigsaw puzzle of the Butchart Gardens so she will have something to do while she misses us. We took pictures. Continue reading
The most wonderful day of the year!
Today we got up early and picked up Jamey and Sarah at their hotel. We crossed the border and took the ferry over to Vancouver Island. We spent all morning at Butchart Gardens and a good part of the afternoon at the Craigdarroch Castle, which I’d never seen before. Then we barely had time to drive by the Empress Hotel and the Parliament Building so Mark could see those. Here is a sampling of pictures from the day: Continue reading
Happy birthday to me!
Today is my birthday! Late yesterday afternoon my mother, stepfather, son and daughter-in-law came up to be with me through Mother’s Day. Last night Aunt Marg and all the rest of us went to dinner at my favorite restaurant, Via Birch Bay Café and Bistro. My family all got to see our new RV too. It’s so good to have them here! Continue reading
Happy Easter!
I know that most of you won’t get this in time for Easter, so happy belated Easter. This evening we took Aunt Marg to see Heaven is for Real. It’s based on a book by a pastor named Todd Burpo. Reverend Burpo tells the story of his four year old son, Colton, who had a near fatal illness and came back saying he’d been to heaven. If you haven’t seen this movie or read the book, I highly recommend it. Continue reading
From Milwaukie, OR
Yesterday we set up an extra litter box and an extra food dish for the cats, told them not to throw any wild parties while we were gone, and left them alone for the weekend. We headed south at the invitation of my sister, Sherill. Continue reading
Correction…
Yesterday I said that Mark and I will be down in the Portland area from the 12th through the 14th. Make that the 11th through the 14th. My dad is the only one so far who has asked to see us.
Easy come, easy go
Just a quick update: My friend, Wendy, took us out to breakfast this morning and then she headed home. I got word from her tonight that she made it home safely. Thank you, Wendy, for coming up, and thank you, Aunt Marg, for hosting her. Continue reading
