Over Labor Day weekend, Sister Bay is having their annual Marina Festival. This year, through Mark’s efforts, BACA has a booth at the festival. BACA is a biker group Mark belongs to and the initials stand for Bikers Against Child Abuse. Continue reading

Barn dance!
Tonight was another Bridges event, this time in Egg Harbor at Sawyer’s Barn. (That’s as far as I got on Tuesday night when I began to fall asleep at my computer.) Continue reading
Time with the kids
Mark took me to work this morning at the Noble House and then he went and picked Merih up for some guy time. Mark has been working on Merih’s car for at least the last couple of weeks, and it was hoped that with Merih’s help, they might be able to finish, but this car is not so easy to fix. However, Mark thinks that they should be able to have it driveable by next Tuesday. Merih is certainly hoping so! Continue reading
Happy birthday, Kader!
Today is Kader’s twenty-first birthday. I managed to get tickets to a play so that we could take her tonight. First, at Merih’s invitation, we took her to dinner in the bar at Sister Bay Bowl. That’s where he works and he wanted to serve us. We sat facing the bowling alley and enjoyed watching people of all ages play.
A little bit of catch-up
First, some news about my pastor, Nancy. I believe I had last told you that she was not going to have a mastectomy. That was the news she told us all when she sent a phone call out to the church. Ten minutes later, the oncologist called her and told her that not only was that still a possibility, but the doctor wanted her to have a port put in to start a sixteen-week course of chemo. My pastor was too devastated to call back. Continue reading
Fun, fun, fun!
We have had more fun with our Bridges kids! I have pictures and stories to share… Continue reading
Guys and Gals
This morning, Mark took me and my bicycle and art portfolio over to where Merih and Kader live. He left me with Kader for the day and took Merih with him. Merih wanted to buy a car, so Mark took him down to the Green Bay area to look for one. Continue reading
Bridges event
I mentioned before that Mark and I are Bridges parents to Merih Bayirli. When we dropped him off at his place last week after the play, he asked if we’d be at the Bridges event this week. He seemed to want us there, so Mark and I went. Continue reading
A new family member
Door County businesses have a difficult time getting enough workers to help during the tourist season, so there is a program where university students from other countries can come here and work. There is also a coalition of churches here called Bridges that recruits Christian families to sort of “adopt” these international students for the summer. Mark and I did it last year and they asked us to do it again this year. We accepted. Continue reading
There’s snow in them thar hills: Part 2
I’m sitting on hold with the IRS, so I thought this would be a good time to write about what Mark and I did on Saturday. We took a day trip up to Mount Lemmon which looks like it’s practically in our back yard but took forever to get to by road. Continue reading
