NRVIA training

We had an opportunity to sleep in this morning which helped considerably when we went to the training this afternoon.  The training ran from 1:00 to about 5:45 and it mostly covered stuff we had already learned about how to do an inspection report.  There have been some improvements made to the template even since we did our mock inspections this summer, so it was good to see those.  They also acknowledged some of the glitches I had been having trouble with when I did the reports from our mock inspections but didn’t seem to have fixes for those yet.   Continue reading

Persecuted Christians

Mark says I bury my head in the sand when it comes to the news, and he’s probably right.  I quit watching the news and reading newspapers a long time ago because the news just brought me down.  I can be a lot more optimistic when I just keep track of what’s going on around me.  However, there are certain news stories that get through my defenses and I find them very distressing;  I don’t know how to deal with them. Touring Door County: Washington Island

So far we have done all our Door County exploration on the peninsula, but there is an island off the tip of the peninsula that is part of Door County as well.  On Wednesday we took the ferry there and spent the day exploring the island.  It took me all that evening to download, edit and export the pictures we had taken, so today I can finally write about it. Continue reading

Happy Father’s Day!

I tried to call my father this afternoon to wish him a Happy Father’s Day but ended up having to leave a message on his answering machine.  Even better than that, Jamey left a Happy Father’s Day message on our answering machine for Mark.  I hope Dad gets as much pleasure from my message as Mark got from Jamey’s! Touring Door County: Southern Door

I had meant to explore southern Door County Sunday after church, but the wind was so cold I put it off for today.  I was mostly on a mission to find some of the Belgian roadside chapels, but we made some other stops too. Continue reading

The church of The Old Rugged Cross

When Mark and I were researching churches in the area we found that there are not many in this tip of the peninsula, but Sturgeon Bay has both an LDS church and a Friends church.  They both meet at 10:00 on Sunday morning, so since we’d been to Mark’s church last week, we went to the Friends Community Church this morning. Continue reading

From De Pere, WI

I’ve been remiss in writing since we left Minneapolis last week.  When we first got to De Pere (just south west of Green Bay, WI) we had a couple deadlines hanging over our heads, and when we managed to get those done, there didn’t seem to be much to write about. Continue reading

Nauvoo, IL

OK, so here is a little LDS history:  Joseph Smith first brought his followers to a swampy bend in the Mississippi River and named the area Nauvoo, a Hebrew word meaning “the beautiful location”.  They drained the swamp and began building a well planned town, the second largest in the west at the time.  Chicago was the largest.  Continue reading
