In spite of the warmth and the cloudless skies of yesterday, when Mark and I went to bed last night we heard rain on our roof. It rained off and on all night. Mark didn’t sleep well last night so he can testify to that. Continue reading

Potluck
There was a potluck scheduled for 2:00 here in the fairgrounds this afternoon. The afternoon started out warm but breezy, I think everyone came, and there was lots of good food. Continue reading
How I spent my day…
Thursdays are honey wagon day. The honey wagon is a truck that goes around and collects everything from our holding tanks since we have no sewer connections. The truck they sent around was so small it had to make several trips to empty and refill. Continue reading
Express Employment orientation
This morning the camp host here at the fairgrounds came over and had us fill out and sign a bunch of paperwork for Express Employment. Then she told us to go to the hotel where they set up the orientation. Continue reading
Almost time to go
The last few days Rose has allowed me to work half days so that I could spend time getting my house in order. Today Mark took off for half a day as well and we drove over to Jerry’s shop so that Mark could change the oil and the oil filter on the RV. It was a complicated matter of unhooking everything, pulling in the slides, and then hooking everything back up and putting the slides out again. We invited Miss Rose over to see our place all clean and ready tonight. Continue reading
Grapes of Wrath
Several weeks ago Mark and I woke up to an NPR interview with a reporter from Harper’s. The reporter had written an article about Workampers where she described us as elderly people who couldn’t afford to retire. She told about a woman she interviewed who sounded suicidal because she was so depressed about having to live in her RV and travel around looking for work. I commented on NPR’s web site asking where the reporter’s sense of adventure was. Continue reading
Making strawberry rhubarb jam
This afternoon Rose invited me over to her house to teach me how to make strawberry rhubarb jam. She had me buy some pint-sized jars, a bag of sugar, and some strawberry Jello. We picked rhubarb out of her back yard. Continue reading
Moving day!
When we first started talking with Rose about coming to Tok and working in this RV park, we asked her if she had any 50 amp sites. She said she did, but she wasn’t here when we arrived, so we were put in a 30 amp site. Mark began talking with our boss, Mike, about it and yesterday they found a site they could spare for us. Continue reading
Keeping the lines of communication open
We have been polling other Workampers for some time about what the best phone service is. We’ve also asked when interviewing for various jobs. One person would say AT&T and another would say Verizon. We had just AT&T, but last night we walked into a Verizon store. Continue reading
More snow
It snowed all day and night Sunday and most of the day today. We had some brief rain once or twice so I assume there’s ice in a couple of the layers of snow. We have propane and food and running water so we’re doing fine. Mark has been taking pictures: Continue reading
