Nancy has been wishing for rain for the farm and she has certainly gotten her wish the last couple of days. We’ve had so much rain that I finally had to put some old political posters across from the barn door to the gate that leads to their back yard. This afternoon as Mark and I were working on the chicken coop, big black clouds were gathering in the northwestern sky. The wind began to rock the coop. We had brittle fiberglass roofing on one side and we were beginning to lay corrugated metal on the other. Then it began to rain. We finally went to our RV and from there we could see the rain coming in sideways. I felt like singing, “Oh say can you see if our roof is still there?” Continue reading
We planned a short day of travel today and it was a good thing. This morning Mark was catching a heavy crosswind from the southeast that made driving difficult. We stopped once to get gas and a little after that we stopped at a rest area so he could relax his grip. Fortunately, as soon as we left the rest area the highway turned southeast so the wind wasn’t hitting us broadside. Continue reading
This morning when we arrived at work at 6:30, we learned that our piler was down. There is something called a Lovejoy on it which sounds like it should be a wonderful thing, but that’s what was broken. While the mechanic worked on it we cleaned the piler and greased it until there wasn’t really anything more we could find to do on it, so we went to our cars and waited…and waited…and waited. For two days there was no work and Mark and I were getting cabin fever. This morning when we called in they said we could come to work, but not till 8:30. We went back to bed for a while. It’s a good thing we’ve had all this rest for the last couple days! Continue reading
This morning it was raining when we got up at 5:00, but we got dressed and had breakfast. Then we called to see if we were working. There was a message asking us to check back at 8:00, so we went back to bed for a while longer. When we called back at 7:45 the message said to come in at 8:30. Continue reading
