Mark is taking a three day weekend for the holiday, so of course, he worked on some projects around the house. He mowed the front lawn, started trying to clean one area of the garage (where he found a whole bunch of mouse droppings), and…

A substitute for Bridges
Because they didn’t think there’d be any J-1 students (foreign exchange) coming over this year, the leaders of the Bridges program that always planned fun activities for the young people didn’t plan anything for this year. When I wrote to them and told them that my kids were coming, Janet, the wife of the leadership team (along with Ken – The Bicycle Man), invited us to bring them to their church youth group activities. Tonight was the first one for our “daughters”.
Continue readingAlmost there!
Mark and I worked all day on building the craft room and trying to get my things organized. There are still a couple of things to build, but it’s getting there.
Continue readingAnother special visit
I got word from Kader this morning that she and her Turkish friend, Aleyna, were in Sister Bay, so I made arrangements for Mark and me to meet them for dinner tonight.
Continue readingQuick update
I had Merih come over this morning (and he was wearing a face mask because I had told him he needs to be cautious) and I called the COVID-19 hotline to try to make an appointment for him to be tested.
Continue readingA surprise visitor
This morning I was working on my business plan when I saw that I had a message from Merih. He said that he was in Sister Bay and had just arrived an hour before. You could have knocked me over with a feather! Last I had heard from him and Kader a few days ago, we had all seemed to resign ourselves to the fact that they wouldn’t be able to come this summer. I also got a message from Kader that she will be arriving on the 24th if the influx of foreign students isn’t banned by Trump before then.

It’s official! I registered my business with the State of Wisconsin and got my EIN (Employer Identification Number) today. The name went through several iterations but I finally named it Camp Quilter Kits. I have a website being built for it, so once that’s ready, I’ll let you look at it and see what you think!
Continue readingIt’s been a good day in Ellison Bay!
I don’t think I’ve mentioned this in my blog before, but I am on unemployment, and I made the mistake of reporting that I was unavailable to work the week that Mark and I were traveling up here. Ever since then, they stopped sending my benefits while they investigated why I wasn’t available that week.
Continue readingTwelve years and counting!
Today, June 13th, Mark and I are celebrating our twelfth wedding anniversary. We spent most of the day apart — he driving to Milwaukee, a three hour drive each way, and me spending a good part of the day at the local laundromat cleaning up more stuff the mice got into. We did eventually get together for a dinner which we ordered as curbside delivery.
Continue readingWe almost made it!
Mark and I have this tradition we’ve been doing almost since we first bought our house. We live near the end of a long road, so when I go out to see him off to work in the morning, I stand in the road and wave to him until he turns the corner. He usually rolls his window down and reaches out to wave to me two or three times as he drives down the road.
