This morning we woke up to nice weather. We went into work and I found out that Rose wanted me to work on the book shelves. We have a little shelf out in the laundry room and a big shelf on the enclosed back porch of the main building. Rose had a friend bequeath boxes and boxes of books to her and she wanted to use them all. Continue reading

From Tok, AK
It’s been a pleasant trip, but after the frustration of not being able to do everything I wanted with my blog the last couple days, it’s nice to be back on American soil! For starters let me just say that we are now on Alaska Time, so we are an hour ahead of Pacific Time. Continue reading
Seattle and back
Mark was supposed to have a medical appointment at the VA in Seattle this morning at 9:00. That meant we had to get up at 5:30 this morning. Seattle is a two hour trip from Birch Bay, but we didn’t know what the traffic would be like as we got closer to Seattle so we left early. Continue reading
More snow
It snowed all day and night Sunday and most of the day today. We had some brief rain once or twice so I assume there’s ice in a couple of the layers of snow. We have propane and food and running water so we’re doing fine. Mark has been taking pictures: Continue reading
Snow!
I know…you all had a lot of snow recently, so snow doesn’t seem like much to you. But when we woke up and saw snow this morning, it was the first we’d seen since Reno. I have been working on insulating our front window curtains, but it’s been slow going with my hands in braces. Mark suggested I try to finish today. Continue reading
Walk on through the storm
Last night as we were driving over to my Aunt Marg’s house, we saw a flash of lightning to the east. We were taking a movie over to watch with my aunt, Iron Lady, about Margaret Thatcher. During the movie, the wind blew Marg’s gas fireplace pilot light out. When we came home and went to bed, it was still stormy and blowing around our RV. Continue reading
A Sunday drive
Conversation heard at 2nd Christian Reformed Church between two attractive young women this morning: “I was wearing my tights and some snow boots because it was cold, and my dad was watching the guys around me and he told me to change because he didn’t like the way they were looking at me. I said, ‘Dad, it’s just the fashion!’ and he said, ‘I don’t care. They aren’t looking at the fashion.’ So I figured, he is my dad and I changed.” I haven’t heard that anywhere else we’ve been, not even in the Bible belt! Continue reading
We’re official now
We’ve been busy the last two days. Yesterday we rented a storage unit, so now we sort of have property in Lynden. Today we went and got new drivers licenses. While we were there they signed us up as Washington voters, so we are officially Washingtonians now. Continue reading
Third Sunday of Advent
We have hot and cold running water for the first time in a week. Praise the Lord! We took a shower in the bath house before church, and when we got home from church Mark worked on the plumbing and finally got everything running. It’s lovely to be able to flush the toilet and wash dishes again. In fact, the first thing I did when Mark told me it was working was get a big glass of water to make lemonade. I was thirsty! Continue reading
A lucky day!
First of all, I’ve got to tell you a joke I made up! You know the saying, “Be alert; the world needs more lerts”? I thought of that today when I was looking at a sign at work that said, “Stay alert.” Then I thought of a new saying all on my own: “Walk ahead; it could use the exercise!” Get it? 😉 Continue reading
