This morning when we arrived at work at 6:30, we learned that our piler was down. There is something called a Lovejoy on it which sounds like it should be a wonderful thing, but that’s what was broken. While the mechanic worked on it we cleaned the piler and greased it until there wasn’t really anything more we could find to do on it, so we went to our cars and waited…and waited…and waited. The holy Sabbath
In spite of the warmth and the cloudless skies of yesterday, when Mark and I went to bed last night we heard rain on our roof. It rained off and on all night. Mark didn’t sleep well last night so he can testify to that. Continue reading

Attitude
Thank you to all those who wrote to cheer me up from the day I had yesterday. There was one incident I had forgotten to write about last night because I didn’t get yelled at about it yesterday. This morning in our stand up meeting, the boss didn’t mention our piler crew, but he did mention to everyone else that someone had forgotten to take a tare sample. That would be me. Continue reading
Nearly a full day of work
For two days there was no work and Mark and I were getting cabin fever. This morning when we called in they said we could come to work, but not till 8:30. We went back to bed for a while. It’s a good thing we’ve had all this rest for the last couple days! Continue reading
Rain, rain, go away…
This morning it was raining when we got up at 5:00, but we got dressed and had breakfast. Then we called to see if we were working. There was a message asking us to check back at 8:00, so we went back to bed for a while longer. When we called back at 7:45 the message said to come in at 8:30. Continue reading
From Bozeman, MT
This morning before we broke camp, Miss Rose called to make sure we’d made it home alright. She told me it has snowed and with heavy winds it’s nearly blizzard conditions in Tok. I told her that it was 90 degrees yesterday in Idaho. It was wonderful to hear from her! Continue reading
Early snow
Last night (September 2nd) Mark went out after dark and discovered that we were getting snow mixed with rain. It must have gotten colder during the night because this morning when we opened our blinds there was a light dusting of snow on the picnic tables and some on the ground. Everyone’s been talking about it today. Miss Rose says she heard that this is the earliest recorded snow in Tok (or was it Alaska?) since 1925. This is the earliest I’ve ever seen snow!
The Arctic Circle!
This morning Mark told me he didn’t sleep most of the night because of dogs barking in somebody’s back yard. I woke up with a swollen eyelid because something bit me during the night. Before I even got out of bed I was on my laptop looking for another place to spend tonight. We grabbed all our stuff and were out of the tree house before anyone else was out of bed apparently. We may not be able to get our money back for tonight at that hostel, but it’s worth it to be in a motel tonight! Continue reading
Stormy weather
This morning we woke up to nice weather. We went into work and I found out that Rose wanted me to work on the book shelves. We have a little shelf out in the laundry room and a big shelf on the enclosed back porch of the main building. Rose had a friend bequeath boxes and boxes of books to her and she wanted to use them all. Continue reading
