Market day

Today was Farmer’s Market day in downtown Winnsboro.  Yesterday Karl got kind of crushed by a cow so he had a doctor’s appointment this morning and couldn’t go with Nancy.  She herself wasn’t feeling up to snuff, so I offered to go with her and help.  There were only about five tables in this Farmer’s Market and not too many people came through so I had a chance to see all the tables and visit with the vendors.  Part way through the morning Karl stopped by on his way to the doctor and left Stewart with us.  Here is what I saw today: Continue reading

All in a day’s work

Last night before Mark and I went to bed we noticed that our electricity wasn’t working.  This morning Mark fired up the generator.  He tried checking our fuse box and everything, but couldn’t find what the problem was.  I went out to feed the pigs and saw Karl already in the barn.  When he found out we didn’t have electricity he went to look at our situation with Mark and discovered that the problem was in the electricity coming from the cabin where we’re hooked up. A day on the farm

This morning after a breakfast of garbanzo bean and coconut flour pancakes and home made sausage and raw milk at the house, Mark and I got the RV and car moved.  We had to leave the car in the pasture with Folger (the horse).  It was hard enough as it was to get the RV in behind the guest house and get it plugged in. A bad ending

On our last day of work, as we were driving away, Mark and I had an impulse to stop at the beet pile where we almost got smished by the boom and toss our helmets as high as we could.  It was like tossing your graduation cap after spending several years of hard study.  It was like saying, “We were here!” Continue reading

A frustrating day was had by all

This morning when we arrived at work at 6:30, we learned that our piler was down.  There is something called a Lovejoy on it which sounds like it should be a wonderful thing, but that’s what was broken.  While the mechanic worked on it we cleaned the piler and greased it until there wasn’t really anything more we could find to do on it, so we went to our cars and waited…and waited…and waited.
