Life goes on…

There’s been an outpouring of notes and prayers sent to us in the last few days.  Thank you for that.  This morning Mark’s hand was hurting so he took his pain medication.  It made him kind of dizzy and drowsy so he took a nap.  That was the last pain pill he needed today.  He’s going to try to go with just Ibuprofin if he needs anything during the work week, but as of this evening he was feeling pretty good. Home repairs

Yesterday we broke camp to drive up the hill and fill our propane tank.  It’s a rather arduous procedure that includes putting the cats in our car because no living thing is supposed to be in the RV when they’re filling the propane.  We have to bring in the slide-out and the awnings and lift up the levelers.  Mark also attached the nozzle that will allow us to use an external propane tank from now on so we won’t have to break camp every time we need propane. Great balls of fire!

As I write, we are directly in a lightning storm.  I mean, there’s no counting 1-1000, 2-1000… for this one.  The whole area around us turns as bright as day for a few seconds and then there’s a crack and a rumble that rattles the floor beneath us.  It keeps going every five seconds or so.  Rain is pounding down on top of us.  I’ve never seen anything like this! Happy President’s Day!

This afternoon my mother had an ice cream social for the whole family.  It was partly for my brother-in-law’s birthday, and partly as a farewell party for Mark and me since we don’t know when we’ll be back again.  It being President’s Day, my nephew, Nate, and his parents didn’t have school.  It was wonderful to have all my family together, laughing and catching up with each other.  Here’s a picture: Continue reading

Tax time and other business

We went to see our CPA today.  He was a little surprised by the thickness of the file we brought with us.  We’ve got some strikes against us, but they are hopefully balanced out by thousands of dollars-worth of donations we made as we were paring down from our house to our RV.  I told our accountant we’ve had a complicated year, but he was pleased to see that we had records of just about everything. I’m sorry for your loss!

This afternoon Mark was invited to watch the Superbowl game with the men in my family (and my younger sister), and I picked my mom up and took her to my older sister’s house where we caught up on each other’s news.  I’m not a sports fan, but I know that the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens 31-34.  I want to send my consolations to all my friends in Saratoga, Los Gatos and Palo Alto and let you all know that my family was rooting for the 49ers.
