So much to do, so little time! We wanted to go to the Christmas Eve service at church last night, but we were busy doing our last minute shopping and wrapping for each other after spending a day catching up on laundry and trying to get ready for Monday. We wanted to go to the Christmas day service this morning, but we were getting dressed, having breakfast, and opening our presents before going over to my older sister’s house for Christmas dinner. We had to leave her place early to continue getting ready for our big moves tomorrow. Still, we read the Christmas story and listened to “real” Christmas carols about Christ’s birth. It was a good day.

Snow days
I have heard snow stories from around the country this last week. Here’s mine:
Starting a new tradition
I have been using my “spare” time, when I’m not working or tired and sore, writing Christmas cards, and some of you may already have received one from me. If you have a change of address since last year, please send it to me before I get to your name. So far, I’m into the “G’s”. This has precluded what little writing time I’ve had for my blog, but today I have pictures that I wanted to share.
Doesn’t anyone want to WORK any more?
Williams-Sonoma has been hiring for several weeks now and everyone they interview wants to work on the sales floor rather than in the stock room, even though we in stock earn $1 more per hour than the sales associates do. Last week they thought they had a couple more people hired to work in stock, but the people never showed up and didn’t even call. Continue reading
Pictures from our election trip
So we all woke up to a new day today. Some of you woke up feeling happy and some of you felt like you’d been kicked in the stomach, but the sun still rose and life goes on. I woke up early this morning and began practicing what I preached last night…praying for our president-elect and for the country.
Job hunting, day four… and success!
I had two interviews lined up for today and one tomorrow, plus there was a message on my answering machine from someone else who was trying to line up an interview with me, but after the first interview today I was hired! This was the place where the assistant manager had sounded so interested in me last week, and today I was interviewed by the manager. Continue reading
Job hunting, day three
This morning I remembered that when I was here during the summer I had learned that the local mall, Washington Square, has a website where all the stores list their job openings. I went there and ran down the list looking for any that said they had seasonal openings. I came up with a list of nine stores that were looking for someone on a seasonal basis. I printed up ten copies of my resume and hit the mall…
From Milwaukie, OR
Originally we had planned for today to be a six hour day of travel and to have two hours left to travel tomorrow, but my older sister, Sherill, suggested we come the extra two hours and stay at her house tonight. That sounded appealing so we took her up on it, but it did make for a very long drive.
Trip review
Tomorrow night I’ll be flying back to Chicago and Tuesday Mark will be taking me back to Wisconsin. I’ve been so busy with family I haven’t written much, but now I have a few minutes to reflect on this trip. Continue reading
