Today we got up early and picked up Jamey and Sarah at their hotel. We crossed the border and took the ferry over to Vancouver Island. We spent all morning at Butchart Gardens and a good part of the afternoon at the Craigdarroch Castle, which I’d never seen before. Then we barely had time to drive by the Empress Hotel and the Parliament Building so Mark could see those. Here is a sampling of pictures from the day: Continue reading

Planning our trip
I’ve spent the last couple days trying to find RV parks and make reservations in Canada for our trip to Alaska. This has never been difficult before, but this time it has proved to be a challenge. Continue reading
From Seattle
This morning I had a hand therapy appointment and got the big bandage cut off my right hand. Yay!!! Then we drove down to Seattle for Mark’s medical appointment which will be tomorrow morning. We arrived sooner than we could check into our hotel, so we spent a fun afternoon sightseeing. Here are some pictures: Continue reading
Mt Vernon Tulip Festival
The whole month of April is the world famous Mt Vernon Tulip Festival. There are a number of tulip, daffodil and iris farms in the area. The two biggest tulip farms are Tulip Town and Roozengaarde. Roozengaarde offers a military discount, so Mark and I went there yesterday. It has taken some time to transfer the pictures we took and edit them, but I am finally ready to publish some of the best of them here… Continue reading
From Milwaukie, OR
Yesterday we set up an extra litter box and an extra food dish for the cats, told them not to throw any wild parties while we were gone, and left them alone for the weekend. We headed south at the invitation of my sister, Sherill. Continue reading
Correction…
Yesterday I said that Mark and I will be down in the Portland area from the 12th through the 14th. Make that the 11th through the 14th. My dad is the only one so far who has asked to see us.
Finally, something interesting!
There hasn’t been much interesting stuff going on here — doctor appointments, preparing taxes, etc. But yesterday a couple interesting things happened… Continue reading
Seattle and back
Mark was supposed to have a medical appointment at the VA in Seattle this morning at 9:00. That meant we had to get up at 5:30 this morning. Seattle is a two hour trip from Birch Bay, but we didn’t know what the traffic would be like as we got closer to Seattle so we left early. Continue reading
Easy come, easy go
Just a quick update: My friend, Wendy, took us out to breakfast this morning and then she headed home. I got word from her tonight that she made it home safely. Thank you, Wendy, for coming up, and thank you, Aunt Marg, for hosting her. Continue reading
…She chortled in her joy.
This morning Mark and I picked my friend, Wendy, up at Aunt Marg’s house — they had been having a good visit — and took her with us to my hand surgeon appointment. He has got to be the fastest doctor in the world. (He doesn’t even close the office door!) He took the Band-Aid off my wrist, asked if I wanted him to operate on my other wrist, and when I said I wasn’t sure, he said, “Call me when you decide,” and I was out the door! Continue reading
