This morning my sister fixed us breakfast and then Mark and I prepared to embark on today’s journey. When we were finally ready, Sherill and Fred and Mark and I got into a huddle in the middle of her street and had a prayer time. Continue reading

All done!
All week Mark and I have been telling each other: “Only four days left.” “Only three days left.” “Only two days left.” “Only one day left.” Continue reading
Third Sunday of Advent
We have hot and cold running water for the first time in a week. Praise the Lord! We took a shower in the bath house before church, and when we got home from church Mark worked on the plumbing and finally got everything running. It’s lovely to be able to flush the toilet and wash dishes again. In fact, the first thing I did when Mark told me it was working was get a big glass of water to make lemonade. I was thirsty! Roughing it!
I haven’t heard exactly how low the temperature got last night, but it was either at 0 or below 0. By the time we were out running errands this morning it was up to 8 degrees. Continue reading
Second Sunday of Advent
This morning we were out of propane in our external tank (it seems to go faster in the cold weather) and our hot water pipes were frozen. Our water tank which can be used with a water pump was a fifty gallon block of ice. I ended up walking across the snow to get to the bath house across the street to take a shower for church. Two weeks to go!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s been a quiet day at Grand Sierra
I started out the day with another rumination in bed before getting up. In Spanish, seven is siete, eight is ocho, nine is nueve, and ten is diez. So we have September, which is the ninth month, October which is the tenth month, November which is the eleventh month, and December which is the twelfth month. How come? Even if you account for the fact that the new year used to begin on April 1 (hence April Fools Day for those who forgot and wished people a Happy New Year after the change), the months would still be off. Anyone got a clue what that’s all about? Continue reading
Body and soul
I can’t begin to say how wonderful it is to have Sundays off. Today we nourished our spirits and our bodies. Continue reading
Easy come; easy go
Last night we got some snow. It wasn’t enough to affect the roads, but there was a little on the roof of our car when we went out this morning. It was too dark to see anything on the way to work, but in the fading light on our way home from work tonight, we could see snow on the mountains. It was beautiful, especially as a backdrop to the darker foothills in front. Continue reading
