Home again, home again, jiggety-jig!

Yesterday we rented a U-Haul truck and emptied out our storage unit in Oregon.  Last night we had two dinner invitations, so Mark went to Vancouver to have dinner with his daughter, granddaughter, and mother (and their spouses).  I went out to dinner with my dad and stepmother.  We both had good visits with our respective families.  Continue reading

Happy New Year!

My extended family traditionally celebrates the gift giving part of Christmas on New Years Eve.  This tradition was started when my nephew was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum.  My younger sister wanted him to associate Christmas with Christ’s birth, but decided he could start the New Year out with new things.  Hence, the gift giving on New Years Eve. Happy Boxing Day!

I trust you all had a good Christmas.  We had a quiet Christmas with my mother and older sister and their husbands.  Mark and I opened our gifts and we called my son and sang “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”.  This tradition started when he was young and would sleep in on Christmas morning.  His dad and I would stand outside his door like carolers and sing him awake.  I still call him first thing on Christmas morning and sing him awake! Christmas Eve, from Milwaukie, OR

Merry Christmas, everyone!  We had a wonderful visit with my younger sister’s family in Klamath Falls, OR.  They showed us Rob’s and Nate’s school and the little theater where their family all performed in It’s a Wonderful Life.  Then my sister took us to the Dollar Tree so Mark and I could do our traditional $10 hunt for gifts for each other.  We don’t need much and we have fun hiding from each other in the aisles where we’re picking up little things so we have something to open from each other on Christmas.  We ended the day along with Lauryn and Rob watching the original black and white version of A Christmas CarolContinue reading

4th Sunday of Advent, from Klamath Falls!

Hey everyone, we’re back in Oregon!  We’re staying with my younger sister, Lauryn, and her family in their new/old home.  It was built by a doctor in the early 1900s, and amazingly a bunch of his stuff is still here – his doctor bag, his license, his class picture, etc.  The house itself is very beautiful and has lots of character. Third Sunday of Advent

We have hot and cold running water for the first time in a week.  Praise the Lord!  We took a shower in the bath house before church, and when we got home from church Mark worked on the plumbing and finally got everything running.  It’s lovely to be able to flush the toilet and wash dishes again.  In fact, the first thing I did when Mark told me it was working was get a big glass of water to make lemonade.  I was thirsty!
