The temperatures today were in the 30s. We have not had a working furnace for the last five months, so we’ve been heating our RV with space heaters. However, we’ve had a sort of breakthrough this week. Tuesday evening we participated in a webinar by Workamper News on RV maintenance. We submitted a question when we registered for the webinar and the speaker, Terry Cooper, answered it. Continue reading

Christmas preparations
I have been working, lately, on Christmas gifts. Today I finished the project I was working on and still had most of the afternoon before time to go to work, so I started decorating for Christmas. While I was working inside, Mark was cutting up that tree that fell across the road from our place last weekend. I have pictures: Continue reading
A good day
Mark’s back has been hurting for several days and yesterday he kind of laid low and rested. It seems to have done him some good. He wasn’t in as much pain when he woke up this morning. I asked him if we could go shooting because we haven’t done that for a couple weeks, and he said yes. Continue reading
RSO training
Mark got up at 5:00 this morning and went to Los Banos, nearly a 2 hour drive, to take a day of training for certification as a Range Safety Officer. This isn’t a required training here, but he wanted to be prepared for this winter when it will just be him and Adam working on the range. He got home this evening at 7:45, full of stories about what he Continue reading
Highway patrol
Four times a year, there’s a day when all those Adopt-a-highway people are supposed to go out and clean their section of highway. Today was the day here. Workampers from the Los Altos Rod and Gun Club are responsible for cleaning Skyline Blvd one mile in each direction from our driveway. I was looking forward to helping with it, but I Continue reading
A hike in the woods
Right next to the entrance to our place is a road to Castle Rock State Park, of which we are part. One of the responsibilities of workampers up here is to walk down there periodically and pick up any garbage we may see. Today, Mark and I took the hike. Continue reading
Labor Day
Happy Labor Day to everyone! We labored on Labor Day, but we got to mix pleasure with business. There was a barbecue to which all the employees were invited. This would have been a day off for us, but Mark and Adam traded off sitting in the tower all day making sure everyone stayed safe on the ranges. Mark invited me to sit in the tower with him and see what he does. It was interesting. Continue reading
A hint of autumn
We woke up this morning to fog. Up until now, the clouds have generally been in the valley below. It was cool and the air was crisp. I stepped outside to tend to some laundry I was working on, and Adam saw me with my hooded shawl on. He laughed and said, “You’re from Oregon. This should feel good to you!” Continue reading
Fulltiming in an RV
We had a whole day off, and how did we spend it? Well, Mark has been trying to fix our heating and cooling, and this weekend (as in Monday and Tuesday) he has it all torn apart. Club Workamper, to which we belong, now has an online parts store, so we looked up how much it would cost to just replace the unit that is having problems. It’s Continue reading
