Last night I learned that there is a training I need to attend tomorrow at 1:00 pm, so we pushed today to get to Phoenix. We left Wheeler Ridge this morning at 9:05 am. The temperature was 59°. We try to avoid Los Angeles as much as possible even in the best of times, so today we came up with our own route to I-10. Continue reading

We drove in a haze today, literally. We left Galt at 9:30 am and the temperature was 52°. It got quite warm the further south we drove. Wheeler Ridge is just south of the junction of I-5 and Hwy 99, north of Los Angeles. We arrived at the truck stop here around 3:30 pm in 70° weather. I have a feeling I won’t be wearing sweaters again until we get back up to Wisconsin! Here are today’s pictures: Continue reading

It was foggy when we got up in Roseburg this morning. We headed out at 9:15 am and the temperature was 39° F. We were in and out of fog all morning as we went through the Calapooya Mountains in southern Oregon and the northern edge of California. Here are some pictures from today. Continue reading

I think I mentioned a couple days ago that Mark was coming down with a cold. I’ve been trying to doctor him up, but it’s taking its course. This morning before we left Burley, Idaho, Mark went into Walmart and got himself some appropriate gear for the outdoors… Continue reading

Mark and I splurged this morning and had breakfast at the IHOP that was right across the street from the Walmart where we spent the night. Fortified, we crossed two mountain ranges (the Rockies and the Wasatch Mountains) and two state lines (Utah and Idaho). Here are today’s pictures: Continue reading

I admit that we killed some time in Cheyenne this morning, and then again at the Lincoln monument this afternoon, but we thought we’d make it all the way across the state anyway. Continue reading

The weather today was the reverse of what it was yesterday. We woke up to sunshine and then spent most of the day under cloud cover instead of spending most of the day under cloud cover and ending with sunshine. The mood matched the flatness of Nebraska. Continue reading

We got farther than anticipated today. Mark was able to drive about seven and a half hours, but with stops it was over a nine hour day. He thought about pushing even farther, but by the time we got to Omaha the sun had set so we stopped. We’re making up for lost time! Continue reading
Building bridges
Some of the churches in Door County have banded together to help the foreign students that come here to work in the summer. The students don’t generally have a car and are unable to get around to places they might like to see and things they would enjoy doing. They generally live at their work site and that’s about all they get to see. The church program is called Bridges and they offer bi-weekly activities, English lessons, and they match the students up with Christian families who do things with them. Continue reading
