Yesterday Melanie told Mark and me she wanted us to put up new rules in all the cabins and lodges. I had seen inside some of the cabins when I was helping with housekeeping last spring, but this gave me an opportunity to go inside every single place. Continue reading

In the woods
Mark and I spent today working on the Trail of Terror. Our last five weekends here will be devoted to Halloween, and the Trail of Terror is apparently the biggest event of the year. It’s a long trail through a wooded area on the edge of Marval’s property. There are a number of terrifying things along the trail. Continue reading
I’m learning
Sometimes, even a pacifist has to know how to fight fire with fire. It’s been an emotional weekend: everything from hopelessness and despair to learning when and how to speak most effectively. I gave as good as I got and eventually everything worked out. I’m going to have to remember how I did this for the next time conflict comes up! Continue reading
Family Olympics Weekend
Next summer Legacy is going to make it mandatory for Activities to be closed for part of the day and outside activities to be planned. Jeff had asked us to experiment with it this summer, so I decided that Family Olympics Weekend was the time to try it out. The Activity Center was closed until 3:00 in the afternoon on Saturday and we had all outdoor activities going on. Continue reading
Amish with outside influences
Mark and I were in Muskogee for a couple of appointments this morning, which ended at lunch time. I have noticed a big bill board for an Amish restaurant in the area, so we decided to try it. The food was excellent, but the atmosphere was decidedly not Amish. Continue reading

Wet and Wild Weekend!
This weekend has been Wet and Wild Weekend at Marval. They’ve done this theme on the same weekend every year and people sign up for this one so they can participate in a water war. Some of the regular staff who have been through this before really get into it, too. Continue reading
Awww…. <3
The cutest thing happened today in the Activity Center. I have noticed that young children like to make things for their parents. Today a boy who is about to enter kindergarten came in and wanted to make something for his dad whose birthday was yesterday. Continue reading
Our next gig
For several weeks now I’ve been mum about negotiations we’ve been making for when this job in Oklahoma ends. I wanted to be a little more certain it was going to happen before saying anything, but we have a tentative offer of employment and we’re in the process of jumping through all the hoops, so I think we can safely say we know where we’re going next… Continue reading
Mud Wars Weekend
This is Mud Wars Weekend and this afternoon was the mud war. A large hole was dug along the road to the dumpster and it’s been getting watered for several days. Continue reading
