Around the park

The river is rising.  For those of you in other parts of the country, you may have a better idea than I do what’s going on north of us.  I don’t tend to keep up with the national news and weather reports, but I assume there’s been heavy precipitation north of us because the dam was filled to within a few inches of the top, so they’ve been releasing water.  As a result, our river is higher than I’ve ever seen it.  I’ll try to get a picture to include in this blog. Home repairs

Yesterday we broke camp to drive up the hill and fill our propane tank.  It’s a rather arduous procedure that includes putting the cats in our car because no living thing is supposed to be in the RV when they’re filling the propane.  We have to bring in the slide-out and the awnings and lift up the levelers.  Mark also attached the nozzle that will allow us to use an external propane tank from now on so we won’t have to break camp every time we need propane. Spring cleaning

Mark and I are pretty beat tonight.  We moved everything off half the floor in the Activity Center and swept and mopped it.  Remember a few weeks ago when I said I let a couple girls splatter Rit dye all over the floor?  I’ll never do that again!  It took three washings, and we were still picking up color on the third washing.  It took us all day.  Tomorrow we hope to wash the other half of the floor before the campers come in.  That’s all for tonight!

First Azalea Festival weekend

Marval doesn’t expect as many campers in April, so they lumped three weeks under the theme of the Azalea Festival — which isn’t even here in the park, or as far as I can see, in Gore.  They say it’s a local fesival, so I’ll have to see if I can get to it sometime this month.  I think most of the folks here this weekend were here for other reasons. Gore: the trout fishing capital of Oklahoma

Gore is such a small town that I think it mainly survives because of the folks Marval Resort brings in.  Being right on the river, Marval caters to a lot of fishermen.  The city stocks the river with trout and Marval has special events for the fishermen who come.  All of this relies on the water in the river.  Continue reading

After the dust has settled from spring break

Yesterday, the last day of spring break here, it snowed!  It was just itty bitty flakes that didn’t even stick, but everyone commented on it.  This morning Mark and I woke up and our water wasn’t running.  We had to use our water pump for water most of the day.  It was frigid most of the day, but late in the afternoon it seemed to just be cold. Continue reading

Go fly a kite!

Yesterday was kite day.  Mark and I had found a bunch of kite kits at the Dollar Tree in Muskogee so we bought them out.  Yesterday morning we sold the kites and Mark helped the kids put them together.  Then yesterday afternoon they took their kites out to the big open field and flew them.  Everyone who got their kite up in the air got a prize.  A fun time was had by all!
