Fun week!

We were waiting to be assigned a couple of J-1 students, some have yet to arrive, when I went to Piggly Wiggly and started a conversation with my Jamaican cashier. I asked if she was signed up for an American Connection family and she said she had just registered but she didn’t know what it was about. I explained what American Connection families do for the students who arrived here, and she asked if we’d be her family.
Continue readingMark and I visited Southern Door today. I had made arrangements ahead of time for us to tour the Belgian Chapels in and around Brussels, WI. Alas, today was bitterly cold, overcast, and windy.
Continue readingI am again participating in the Alzheimer’s Association’s fundraiser, The Longest Day – the day we fight to end Alzheimer’s. My website on their page is where you can read about the people I am honoring with my fundraiser and make your donation: http://act.alz.org/goto/wandasjourney. Donations start at $20, but you can give more if you would like to support the Alzheimer’s Association!
Continue readingMark has been working really hard around the yard and in the garage since he got back from Tucson with his bike. He would like to be able to ride it, but somehow, he’s lost his bike keys and had to order a new set which should arrive in a couple of weeks. I have also lost my car keys somewhere around here. We’ve turned the house upside down and no keys have shown up. Fortunately for me, Mark had an extra copy of my car key, so we’ve been sharing that.
Continue reading“Mark surprised me by making it home tonight! At first, he had said he would be home by the 18th. Last night, he said he’d probably spend the night in Green Bay tonight so that he could get a new set of tires for my car (I’ve had a flat tire since Thursday and haven’t been able to go anywhere). This afternoon, he texted me and said, “See you soon!”, and I said, “Like today?” He sent me a big grin!
Continue readingMark flew to Tucson on Wednesday so that he could get his Suburban and the motorcycle he had to leave behind. This morning, he started the trip home.
Continue readingThis morning, Mark and I had to again get up at 6:00. We drove to Serenity and Jose’s place in Algoma and left our car there. They took us down to Milwaukee, WI and dropped us off at the Jim May Gallery where our daughter, Kader works. She had just flown back from Florida with another of our daughters, Lara, yesterday. Lara is only going to be in Wisconsin for a couple of days, so this was our best chance to see them both. Serenity and Jose went off to do their own exploring while we visited.
Continue readingToday was my birthday. I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and as I was washing my hands, I was humming “Happy birthday to me!” I had to get up at 6:00 this morning to go to a tourism breakfast in Sturgeon Bay with my boss and co-workers from the Welcome Center, but it was fun. We have a new staff member and it was a good opportunity to get to know her better.
Continue readingMark and I were both watching to see when Tucson would start to recognize where she was.
