Mark was supposed to have a medical appointment at the VA in Seattle this morning at 9:00. That meant we had to get up at 5:30 this morning. Seattle is a two hour trip from Birch Bay, but we didn’t know what the traffic would be like as we got closer to Seattle so we left early. Continue reading

4th Sunday of Advent, from Klamath Falls!
Hey everyone, we’re back in Oregon! We’re staying with my younger sister, Lauryn, and her family in their new/old home. It was built by a doctor in the early 1900s, and amazingly a bunch of his stuff is still here – his doctor bag, his license, his class picture, etc. The house itself is very beautiful and has lots of character. Continue reading
From Tulare, CA
We waited around the RV park in Redding till the office opened at 8:00 this morning. They were serving continental breakfast. I was really touched by something I witnessed there. Continue reading
From Silver Falls State Park in Oregon
There’s not a lot to write about today except that all prayers for our safety as we crossed the mountains were answered. The funniest thing that happened was when we stopped for gas the first time in Oregon and I was looking to see how much the sales tax was on the receipt. I had to remind myself that there is no sales tax here and we don’t have to pump our own gas either! Continue reading
From Mt. Shasta, CA
We got up early this morning and Mark unhooked the water and electric we had been using at the Los Gatos Rod & Gun Club. Our biggest concern about today was getting down off the mountain. We had decided that Mark would drive the RV down with the tow dolly, and I would follow in the car. Mark took it very slowly, and several times we had to pull over to let traffic go by. The cats were in their carriers for this part of the trip. Continue reading
New book news!
Imagine watching your spouse go from perfect health to total dependence on you for everything. That’s what happened to Delores Warner. Her husband, who had always been in control, was diagnosed with ALS, and he made her promise she wouldn’t put him in a nursing home. She not only took care of him, but also of their small farm with Continue reading
Guest blog: Delores Warner – on publishing her first book
Way back in the beginning when I was first writing this blog, I was editing a book for a first-time writer, Delores Warner. I have asked her to keep me posted on her progress since I finished with her, and she recently told me her book is being published. I asked her if she would write a guest blog about the process she’s been through, and she has. Here is Delores’ post: Continue reading

If you are inclined to write for 6th-8th graders, you’ll want to read some of the best of what’s out there now. Here are my top 12 picks:
Many Windows On the World
My husband, Mark, is a long haul trucker. He has been in nearly all the lower 48 states with the exception of a few in the NE corner of the country. He’s seen all sorts of beautiful sights and had many adventures. Wherever he goes he takes a camera, and he’s always ready to shoot something spectacular or interesting. He took the picture I’m using for my Continue reading
It pays to keep your ears open!
This morning after church, I was making myself a cup of hot chocolate, and somewhere nearby, I heard a conversation going. At first I thought it was someone describing a movie they’d seen or a book they’d read, and I wasn’t paying a lot of attention. But then I heard Continue reading
