This morning after church, I was making myself a cup of hot chocolate, and somewhere nearby, I heard a conversation going. At first I thought it was someone describing a movie they’d seen or a book they’d read, and I wasn’t paying a lot of attention. But then I heard something that made my ears perk up. I turned and looked at the young speaker. There was a trio standing there: the young speaker, his wife, and the young listener. All appeared to be in their early 20’s.
As I perceived the conversation was winding down, I made eye contact with the speaker. I went over to him and said, “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but were you saying you’ve written a book?”
He said, “Yeah. But I’m not completely finished with it yet. I need to get it edited and get a book cover designed for it.”
I told him I’m a freelance proofreader and editor and suggested he send me 10 pages (2500 words) which I could edit for free and give him an estimate on what it would cost. Then I asked what type of book cover he had in mind. He said he either wanted an illustration or a photograph. I recommended he contact Jared Souza to talk about an illustration. I said, “Everything you need is right here at church!”
I’ve read the 10 pages he sent me already, and they’re good! I hope he hires me. I’d like to read the rest of the story!
