Saturday at work I thought my throat was dry so I kept drinking water. By Saturday evening I realized I had a sore throat. Sunday morning I woke up with swollen glands and a sore throat so we stayed home all day. Monday we also stayed home and rested, but it was obvious I wasn’t getting any better so I knew I wouldn’t be in to work on Tuesday. Continue reading

Holy smokes!
We have too much fish for our freezer to hold, so Lance loaned Mark a smoker. Never having smoked salmon before, Mark went online and found some YouTube instructions that demonstrated the process. I took pictures as Mark went through the steps: Continue reading
Making strawberry rhubarb jam
This afternoon Rose invited me over to her house to teach me how to make strawberry rhubarb jam. She had me buy some pint-sized jars, a bag of sugar, and some strawberry Jello. We picked rhubarb out of her back yard. Continue reading
New recipes
Today I was listening to Rose talk to a young local woman about recipes. I heard of things I’ve never heard of before like fireweed honey and fireweed jam, wild cranberry jam, and rhubarb jam. Fireweed is a beautiful flower that sprouts up after a fire has cleared out an area. Continue reading
Moving day!
When we first started talking with Rose about coming to Tok and working in this RV park, we asked her if she had any 50 amp sites. She said she did, but she wasn’t here when we arrived, so we were put in a 30 amp site. Mark began talking with our boss, Mike, about it and yesterday they found a site they could spare for us. Sunday
This being the first day of our first weekend in Alaska, I don’t have a lot to say. Mark wanted to make it a day of rest rather than trying out churches. We didn’t really take a break after the long drive up here. What I can say, though, is that Rose and Jerry arrived last evening so thank you for your prayers for their safety. We haven’t met them yet because they went straight to their home which is behind the gas station they also own. Maybe today…
Praise the Lord!
I thought I’d better send a quick note to let everyone know that Mark got his test results today. He’s cancer-free!!! The VA decided that rather than making him come down to Seattle on my birthday, they’d just call him today and let him know their findings. Needless to say, we were thrilled. Thank you, Jesus!
Back in Birch Bay
We got up early this morning and had a nice continental breakfast at the Days Inn Hotel. Then we went to the VA where Mark had some testing done. We won’t know the full results for a couple weeks yet, but the preliminary examination sounded good. They even joked with him and draped his hospital gown over his arm like Caesar! I drove us home and had to stop at a rest stop for a nap, but we’re home now and looking forward to getting back to business as usual. Please pray that the results of Mark’s tests will be good. Thanks!
New and improved Denise!
Thank you to all who wrote to Mark with prayers and good wishes for my recovery! I won’t write long, but I wanted to let you know that my recovery is already starting out much better this time than last. Continue reading
