Some of the churches in Door County have banded together to help the foreign students that come here to work in the summer. The students don’t generally have a car and are unable to get around to places they might like to see and things they would enjoy doing. They generally live at their work site and that’s about all they get to see. The church program is called Bridges and they offer bi-weekly activities, English lessons, and they match the students up with Christian families who do things with them. Continue reading

Volunteering
I know it’s been a while since I’ve written. There aren’t many stories to tell these days. All work and no play makes Denise a dull girl. Continue reading
Driving lesson
Last week when I went to meet with Liuda for an English lesson, I met her daughter driving her out of the driveway. Liuda had forgotten I was coming. Her daughter had a day off work and had offered to take her to the DMV to get her learner’s permit. Liuda passed! Continue reading

Learning experiences
Yesterday (Monday), I had my interview with Karen at Tea Thyme. They had their Grand Opening last Saturday for the tea room and it was also open on Sunday. Over the weekend, Karen and Lynn realized they will need more help, so they are giving me more hours. As a result, I will be working twenty-two hours at Tea Thyme and about sixteen hours at Seaquist. It’s a nice blend of jobs. Continue reading
An interesting turn of events

So far, they are talking about needing me for ten hours a week in the mornings. Continue reading
Feathering our nest
My friends, Kathryn and Judy, came over this morning and picked me up to go thrift shopping. Judy had given me a gift certificate at Bargains Unlimited for a housewarming gift so I asked her to help me spend it! Continue reading
House dedication
Today was the Big Day we’ve been working toward. We got up this morning and took the bedding off the hide-a-bed we’ve been sleeping on in the living room and turned it back into a couch. We cleaned and prepared food and got ready for people to come to our house dedication which we had told everyone would start at 2:00. Our first guests arrived at 2:45. Continue reading
Staging
You know you have a good friend when she calls you up and asks if she can help you clean up for your party. I have such a friend in Kathy Plahmer. I was feeling overwhelmed by all I had yet to do and she calmly put things in order for me. Bless you, my dear! Continue reading
