Work and school
If you’ve been following for the last few weeks, you know that I’ve been trying to get hired as a receptionist (or client services professional) at H&R Block for several weeks now. I had the paperwork finished, but because the district manager died last month of a heart attack, my paperwork ended up getting booted out of the system. The manager at the Tigard office, Diane, has been helping me get back into the system and I was finally hired on Monday, the 9th. Tuesday was my first full day of work. Continue reading

Several of you have asked me about Mark. He left the day after Christmas and headed south for training in Florida. He arrived at his destination on Thursday, the 5th. On the 6th, he went to check out his new school.

Starting a new tradition
I have been using my “spare” time, when I’m not working or tired and sore, writing Christmas cards, and some of you may already have received one from me. If you have a change of address since last year, please send it to me before I get to your name. So far, I’m into the “G’s”. This has precluded what little writing time I’ve had for my blog, but today I have pictures that I wanted to share.
Doesn’t anyone want to WORK any more?
Williams-Sonoma has been hiring for several weeks now and everyone they interview wants to work on the sales floor rather than in the stock room, even though we in stock earn $1 more per hour than the sales associates do. Last week they thought they had a couple more people hired to work in stock, but the people never showed up and didn’t even call. Continue reading
Employment
I have been working at Williams-Sonoma for about two weeks now, and today I got my first paycheck. It’s only for the first week I worked, but it’s about as much as I sometimes earned in a two week period at Wagon Trail Campground. Of course, I had an easier job at Wagon Trail Campground and more beautiful surroundings and my bosses and co-workers were like family, so those perks were worth more than money to me. First day on the job
Yesterday I had orientation at Williams-Sonoma and I came out with the worst migraine I’ve had in a long time. Today I was nervous about whether the headache would come back while I was working, but thankfully it didn’t. It’s a good thing, because the rest of me is sore. Continue reading
Job hunting, day four… and success!
I had two interviews lined up for today and one tomorrow, plus there was a message on my answering machine from someone else who was trying to line up an interview with me, but after the first interview today I was hired! This was the place where the assistant manager had sounded so interested in me last week, and today I was interviewed by the manager. Continue reading
