First day on the job

Yesterday I had orientation at Williams-Sonoma and I came out with the worst migraine I’ve had in a long time.  Today I was nervous about whether the headache would come back while I was working, but thankfully it didn’t.  It’s a good thing, because the rest of me is sore.

I was the only person working in the stock room most of the day.  The manager kind of worked with me off and on, but there’s a lot to learn and she wasn’t able to be with me all the time.  She let me know that they’re still hiring and they’re going to need quite a few more people before the holidays hit.

My job consists of unloading trucks when they bring deliveries, processing the items that are delivered and putting them on the stock room shelves, and answering stock checks from sales associates for items the customers are requesting.  It’s a very fast paced job with a lot of climbing, bending, stretching, lifting, walking, etc.  I will definitely be getting a workout!

I’ve met several co-workers today.  One of them is a young Christian woman, so it’s nice to know I’m not alone.  The stock associate who came in this afternoon is also an editor, so he should be interesting to talk to.  One man said that I’m doing a great job.  I didn’t feel like I was because I had a hard time finding things for the sales associates, but I appreciated his encouragement.  Everyone seems to be friendly and nice.  Also, almost everyone seems to be new.  I’m beginning to wonder what the store looks like in the off season.

While I was at work today, Mark was working on our black water tank.  We have been having a problem with it not draining.  Mark watched a YouTube video that gave him an idea how to fix it, but he had to build his own tools to do it.  Today he finally got it working again.  Yay!

He also washed the dishes and had dinner waiting for me when I got home.  What a guy!  I’m so lucky to have him.
