From Hudson’s Hope, BC

One thing I forgot to mention about yesterday was that after we used Mark’s Wells Fargo card for gas, the card stopped working.  I had called all our card companies before we left Washington to let them know we’d be traveling, so we were perplexed as to why Wells Fargo froze our card.  Mark called them this morning and, sure enough, they had a note in their computer that we’d called them in advance about our trip, so they unfroze the card.  If they hadn’t, we couldn’t have proceeded any further. Happy Easter!

I know that most of you won’t get this in time for Easter, so happy belated Easter.  This evening we took Aunt Marg to see Heaven is for Real.  It’s based on a book by a pastor named Todd Burpo.  Reverend Burpo tells the story of his four year old son, Colton, who had a near fatal illness and came back saying he’d been to heaven.  If you haven’t seen this movie or read the book, I highly recommend it. Walk on through the storm

Last night as we were driving over to my Aunt Marg’s house, we saw a flash of lightning to the east.  We were taking a movie over to watch with my aunt, Iron Lady, about Margaret Thatcher.  During the movie, the wind blew Marg’s gas fireplace pilot light out.  When we came home and went to bed, it was still stormy and blowing around our RV. A Sunday drive

Conversation heard at 2nd Christian Reformed Church between two attractive young women this morning:  “I was wearing my tights and some snow boots because it was cold, and my dad was watching the guys around me and he told me to change because he didn’t like the way they were looking at me.  I said, ‘Dad, it’s just the fashion!’ and he said, ‘I don’t care.  They aren’t looking at the fashion.’  So I figured, he is my dad and I changed.”  I haven’t heard that anywhere else we’ve been, not even in the Bible belt! Christmas Eve, from Milwaukie, OR

Merry Christmas, everyone!  We had a wonderful visit with my younger sister’s family in Klamath Falls, OR.  They showed us Rob’s and Nate’s school and the little theater where their family all performed in It’s a Wonderful Life.  Then my sister took us to the Dollar Tree so Mark and I could do our traditional $10 hunt for gifts for each other.  We don’t need much and we have fun hiding from each other in the aisles where we’re picking up little things so we have something to open from each other on Christmas.  We ended the day along with Lauryn and Rob watching the original black and white version of A Christmas CarolContinue reading

4th Sunday of Advent, from Klamath Falls!

Hey everyone, we’re back in Oregon!  We’re staying with my younger sister, Lauryn, and her family in their new/old home.  It was built by a doctor in the early 1900s, and amazingly a bunch of his stuff is still here – his doctor bag, his license, his class picture, etc.  The house itself is very beautiful and has lots of character.
