Christmas memories

I was born into a family that belonged to a very small sect called the Thompson Brethren.  Actually, they didn’t call themselves much of anything except The Meeting.  The Thompson Brethren were started back in the early 1900s by a series of tent revivals led by a man named Nels Thompson.  They were (and are still) very Bible based. 29 Gifts

I guess it must have been about a year ago that I discovered an organization called 29 Gifts.  They have a 29-Day Giving Challenge.  The idea is that you give at least one gift a day for 29 days and record what happens.  They don’t have to be big expensive gifts; even a smile and a kind word to an overworked store clerk counts. Autumnal potluck

There is a group of South End Mennonites that meets up here on the mountain every four to six weeks.  Last night Mark and I attended the November gathering themed around comfort foods.  It’s a family affair, so there were children of all ages and activities had been set up for them.  We brought two large round pumpkins and two walking sticks for a pumpkin race that was planned but apparently didn’t take place.
