In the last two days I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of my quilt group from Peninsula Bible Church. The church is in Palo Alto, and I’m thinking that most of the women in the group also live there. Continue reading

Christmas memories
I was born into a family that belonged to a very small sect called the Thompson Brethren. Actually, they didn’t call themselves much of anything except The Meeting. The Thompson Brethren were started back in the early 1900s by a series of tent revivals led by a man named Nels Thompson. They were (and are still) very Bible based. Continue reading
An Advent weekend
Besides work, Mark and I had a busy weekend that I only now have time to write about. Continue reading
A day of giving…with varied results
This morning I went down to church for my last day of volunteering to help with the sets for the Christmas play. The sanctuary is looking lovely and quite different. It looks like something from an older time and another place. Continue reading
Volunteering
Today I took Mark with me to volunteer to help build the sets for the church play. Note to self: Don’t volunteer Mark for anything without asking him first! He was not a happy camper. Continue reading
29 Gifts
I guess it must have been about a year ago that I discovered an organization called 29 Gifts. They have a 29-Day Giving Challenge. The idea is that you give at least one gift a day for 29 days and record what happens. They don’t have to be big expensive gifts; even a smile and a kind word to an overworked store clerk counts. Continue reading
Among God’s saints

Christian fellowship
When Mom read about Mark and I attending the South End Mennonite gathering, she asked if I’m still attending Saratoga Federated Church. I am! I have been going there three weeks now, and I have already volunteered to help with the sets for the Christmas Continue reading
Autumnal potluck
There is a group of South End Mennonites that meets up here on the mountain every four to six weeks. Last night Mark and I attended the November gathering themed around comfort foods. It’s a family affair, so there were children of all ages and activities had been set up for them. We brought two large round pumpkins and two walking sticks for a pumpkin race that was planned but apparently didn’t take place. Continue reading
And the winner is…
The last church I wrote about was church #10, Saratoga Federated. The reason I haven’t written about any since is because I have landed at Saratoga Federated. The first time I went to the 9:00 service which is contemporary, but then I tried the traditional service at 10:30 and really liked it! Continue reading
