I’m behind on writing. I haven’t been home much in the last couple days except to sleep and work. Continue reading

Thai massage
There’s a place in Saratoga Village called Shivaga and we see their sign for Thai massage every time we’re down there. Every time Mark has seen it, he has longingly said he’d like to get a massage. He used to get a massage once a month a long time ago, and he has back pain from the military that flares up every now and then, so he’s Continue reading
Church #4
In 2007 when I was living and volunteering in Mexico, my boss took me to see “The Pursuit of Happyness” with Will Smith. The story was taken from the real life story of Chris Gardner, a man down on his luck and living on the streets of San Francisco with his young son while he trained to be a stock broker. Later that year, when I was Continue reading

Mark had to get up extra early for work this morning, so I got up with him. At the last minute I decided to change the order of the churches I still want to visit, and it’s a good thing I did. This morning I drove nearly 50 miles to attend a Mennonite church in San Francisco. If you are inclined to write for 6th-8th graders, you’ll want to read some of the best of what’s out there now. Here are my top 12 picks:
Words of wisdom from Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman gave his words of wisdom to the University of the Arts class of 2012. The words are relevant to anyone doing creative work, and so I share them here with you. (Just click on Neil’s name above.) The vimeo is 19:55 minutes long, but well worth the Continue reading
Don’t buy too many green bananas
Yesterday I finished up with the book I’ve been editing for Delores Warner. She’s written a memoir about the 18 months she spent taking care of her husband, Vern, after he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). It’s her first book, but she’s doing everything right. She has shown it to some of the people who walked through that journey with her Continue reading
