Umm, we’re here

My bad for not writing this sooner. We actually got to Tucson on Sunday afternoon, but we’ve been so busy that I haven’t had time to write. Some of you have been asking where we are, so that has prompted me to write the final chapter on this trip.

Dawn in the Walmart parking lot

You may recall from my blog several days ago that we ended up in a Walmart parking lot in Alamogordo after our run-in with a branch in Tularosa, New Mexico. When we woke up in the morning, we could finally see where we were. We were so close to our home in Tucson that I actually got up before the sun and was ready to go!

Looking in the opposite direction
On the right, you can see the white sands. Somewhere in this area is a missile site.
These mountains looked so sharp that I asked Mark if these were the Sawtooth Mountains. He said no.
Starting to drive alongside the mountains. Mark’s trusty shotgun is right next to him in case he needs it!
We stopped at a tiny gas station in New Mexico to use the restroom and I was looking in their ice cream freezer. Pickle Ice?! Yuchh!
“A Hill”: I was shooting out one of our dining room windows from the front seat because it was only in passing it that we could fully see the A. This stands for the University of Arizona and this was where I realized that we were in Tucson. Mark and I drove up to the A several years ago.

Our German Shepherd, Tucson, had seemed kind of depressed through most of the trip. It was really hard for her because she didn’t get a lot of play time with Mark. By the last day, she wouldn’t eat her food and she was moping. But as soon as we got onto La Canada (pronounced La Canyada) Drive, she put her nose up to the vent and smelled something familiar and she went crazy. She started whimpering and running back and forth between us and the front door. She couldn’t wait to get there and get out.

Sunday afternoon at NW Community Friends Church

As soon as we got there and got set up, Mark had to take her out and play ball with her. She was so happy! Usually, we’re the only RV in back, but when we drove around to the back side, we could see that ours would be the fourth RV in a three RV site. Pastor Adam told us that one of the RVs is set up for his mom’s visit in December, so he said we could pull her plug and plug our own RV into the electricity. Unfortunately, Mark discovered that our extension cord wouldn’t reach over to it, and when he got a new extension cord, we blew a fuse and the power in that outlet stopped working. Mark has been working on it ever since, trying to find a way to get us some electricity. Today, Pastor Adam called someone on the building committee and told them we need to have an electrician come out and fix it. Hopefully, that will happen soon. In the meantime, Mark found that all 4 of our house batteries were dry and he put water in them, but he said we’ll need 4 new batteries.

Yesterday, Monday, I got to go to the quilt and craft group that another woman and I had started last year. I’m working on clothing to try to sell for the Alzheimer’s fundraiser, The Longest Day, next year. I learned last summer that clothing was going better than just about anything else I tried to sell.

Mark also attends the group and does his crafts. Usually, he’s done his leatherwork there, but yesterday, he worked on putting together a model car. I was glad to see him do that because he’s been carrying his boxes of model cars around ever since we first started Workamping in 2012.

Tucson comes into the quilting and craft group too. All the women dote over her and there’s a girl who tries to play with Tucson. However, at some point in the afternoon, Tucson got the crazies. She was running back and forth between the room where we were all working and the office area. I asked Mark later what had gotten into Tucson and he said that her favorite person, Geri, had come into the office. I don’t remember if there’s anyone else she acts so excited to see. Tucson has lots of friends down here who are nice to her and try to play with her, but for some reason, Geri is the bee’s knees to Tucson! Geri has taken over for the office person who’s been working there for the last several years, plus, she still cleans the church. She’s one of those behind-the-scenes service kind of people and she exudes kindness to everyone.

Today I got back to working on my application for becoming a commissioned minister. I hope to finally complete that before the end of this year since I won’t be working at Block Advisors anymore. Mark and I have plenty to keep us busy down here without me having to work as well.
