From Reno, NV

Today I dressed a little cooler than I did yesterday, and wouldn’t you know it, it was only in the 70’s! We also got a little later start this morning than we did yesterday, but fortunately, my sister reminded me that we don’t have to be in Oregon until Wednesday. We were thinking of pushing to get there tomorrow.

I spent most of the day today shooting out of the side windows because there were so many bugs on the windshield. This was out Mark’s side.
Out my side
There was a big dust storm
Desert colors
Fluffy white clouds casting a big black shadow
Downtown Tonopah
Mark stopped along the side of the road to let Tucson do her thing.
He noticed me taking his picture…
…and he showed off for the camera!
I think this was Walker Lake. It’s huge!
Keeping his eyes on the road
Water!
Mark was riding shotgun!
Scheels is a sports store, but it’s so much more!

We lived in Reno for a month and a half many years ago while we worked the Christmas rush for Amazon as workampers. Before we left the area, we went in to explore Scheels. They had a mountain inside with stuffed mountain goats, wildcats, and other wild animals on it. As you walked around the second floor, there were places with talking statues of some of the presidents. Jefferson said the Constitution of the United States, Lincoln read the Gettysburg Address, etc. There was a plane suspended from the ceiling, and there was a Ferris wheel that Mark and I rode on. The place was more like a museum than a sports store!

Mark stopped for gas as we were approaching Reno, and he finally had a chance to wash all the bugs off the windshield!
I don’t know what gas prices are like in the rest of the country, but they have been close to $5/gallon in Nevada.
Grand Sierra Resort and RV Park

Many years ago when Mark and I were Workamping, we worked as Christmas help at the Amazon fulfillment center in Fernley, Nevada. They didn’t have enough room for all the extra help in Fernley, so they put a bunch of us up in the RV park at this casino. We had mild weather most of the time we worked there, but closer to Christmas, all of us workampers woke up to a surprise freeze that froze our pipes. During breaks, we’d huddle and ask what everyone else was doing to try to unfreeze their pipes. We were without water in our RVs for a week! Ah, fond memories… That’s why we decided to come back and stay here tonight!

We had to go over to the hotel to register for the RV park. It was a beautiful sunset!
There’s a manmade pond between the hotel and the RV park. The mountains were pretty in the sunset.
The pond was built for golfing. The little islands on the pond are what the golfers are trying to aim for.
Y’all know I love color, right?
This part of the casino was next to where we had to register our RV.
This was behind the registration desk.
More color!
This is a restaurant called Johnny Rocket’s that Mark and I had eaten at once when we lived here before. They play rock and roll from our era. We decided to eat here again!
It was dark before we left the resort!
