Mother’s Day and the Big 6-0

Yesterday was Mother’s Day and I should have wished all you mothers out there a happy one, but I was too busy enjoying mine.  Sorry!  Today was my 60th birthday.  It was relatively normal with some special elements.  I have pictures from both days, although my pictures from today were taken on my phone and the quality isn’t quite as good.

Mother’s Day:

First we went to church (where I was given a snapdragon to plant) and then we went to the Hong Kong Buffet in Sturgeon Bay for lunch.

Then we went on a photo shoot, beginning with Ephraim.

We went down on the beach and I watched a dog jump in to retrieve a Frisbee.

We had seen this place at the Ephraim marina last summer, but this was the first time we walked up close to it.

A sign said they started letting the folks who moored at the marina put the name of their boat and the date on the side of this building. Then other folks came to paint their names or messages too.

Last evening my son, Jamey, was able to patch a conference call together with my mother, my older sister, Sherill, Jamey and me.  It was good talking with all of them.  We did a lot of laughing, although we also discussed various health issues.  I would like to get back to see them all if I can find a winter job near them this year.

My 60th birthday:

First thing this morning I got a phone call from my younger sister, Lauryn, wishing me a happy birthday.  Calls from her are so rare it was really special.  She has a very busy life as a teacher and wife to the person newly in charge of the district music program in the Klamath Falls, OR area.  They just got back from a week long band outing and they are about to take their band to compete in the state band competition.  Keep your fingers crossed for them!

Most of the rest of the day I took care of laundry and dishes, although I got up to the office to get the birthday card from my co-workers and my birthday donut.  Everyone who saw me wished me a happy birthday.

Mark was gone on his Harley running errands most of the day, but this evening he took me to Valmy to eat at Donny’s Glidden Lodge.  Wow!  It was expensive, but Mark said I’m worth it.  The food was worth it too!

We had heard of Wisconsin cheese curds last summer but never tried them. Tonight we had them for an appetiser and - yum! They are fried cheese balls and you can dip them in different sauces.

Then our entree arrived. I had Australian rock lobster with wild rice and vegetables. It was so succulent!

Mark had the surf and turf -- lobster and steak smothered in mushroom sauce with red potatoes and vegetables.

While at the restaurant, I opened all my cards and the present Mom sent me.  Thanks Mom!  Thanks also to Mom, Sherill, Mark, Tim and Kathy (and your dog, Whitney), Judy and Rosanne for the birthday cards.  You all said really nice things about me.  I love you all!
