From Andrews AFB, MD

It’s been kind of an exciting day.  The most exciting part was getting to hear the voice of my twin, Denise Fuller, on the other end of my phone line this evening!  We are in Maryland near Washington DC and we will have five days here to explore and also to spend time with her.  She and I have never met yet, but we’ve been emailing each other for about a year and a half and becoming fast friends.  I’ll get into that more in the next few days.  In the meantime, here’s today’s news…

Being on Dover AFB last night, we heard planes going in and out that shook the ground. This is a C5A Galaxy for carrying cargo up to, and including, tanks.

Welcome to Maryland

Maryland welcomes you!

We crossed the Chesapeake Bay on a toll bridge, but there were no toll booths. How can it be a toll bridge with no attempt to collect money from us?

When we got to Andrews Air Force Base (where the president’s plane is kept), security was a bit tighter than on any other base we’ve ever been.  There was a sign that said not to take pictures, and when we pulled up to the visitor’s gate, they turned us around and told us we had to go to another gate to be inspected.  Mark and I were kind of sweating it on the way to the other gate because of some personal property we were carrying.  We were afraid they’d turn us away, but they didn’t.  Praise the Lord!

We had a problem dumping our black water tank this morning and the problem was still there when we hooked up to our new dump this afternoon.  Mark had me boil a couple large kettles full of water and he poured them down the toilet.  After letting them sit for a while, Mark pulled on the black water handle again and everything whooshed out.  He is so smart!

Since we will be here for the better part of a week, Mark was finally able to unload his precious motorcycle, only to find that the front fork seals had broken and oil was leaking out.  It must have happened because of all the potholes and bumps we’ve hit on this trip.  I suppose that will need to be fixed.

We also have to replace our windshield wipers.  I really hope we are able to see Washington DC and don’t have to spend our whole time fixing things!

While Mark was unloading his bike and I was inside watching water boil, Revelle was played over a loudspeaker on the base, followed by the National Anthem.  I knew what that meant and I grabbed my camera to get a shot of Mark standing at attention.

Apparently Mark's love for country is even stronger than his love for his Harley!
