Getting over our phobia

A year ago at this time, we were selling Christmas trees in Texas.  We had lost our ability to smell the trees, we were sick of Christmas carols, and we were feeling like Scrooge.  It was the worst Christmas either of us has ever had, and it left a bad taste in our mouths.

We’d put off doing anything Christmas-y until yesterday.  We went to a local Mennonite church in the morning and the sermon reminded me that what we are really celebrating is “God with us”.  When we came home, we pulled out all our Christmas things and looked them over.  I realized that even last year I thought our old store-bought felt stockings were looking pretty bad, and when I looked at them yesterday, they looked pathetic.  I happened to have a pattern for some cute Christmas stockings and plenty of Christmas fabric, so I set out to make some new ones for us.  (That’s why I didn’t write last night.  I was busy sewing.)  Today I finished the stockings:

I was fairly pleased with how they came out!

Then Mark set up our tiny artificial tree.  When we realized we had no lights for the tree, I sent Mark to get us some.  He came back with enough lights to make our place look like Snoopy’s dog house!

Our tree all decorated...I think we're going to need a bigger tree next year to hold all the ornaments we've accumulated.

Just this evening, Mark was asking what happened to all the Christmas music we used to have.  Yep, we’re definitely beginning to feel the Christmas Spirit again!
