My laptop wish list

I think it’s been about a year since I had a laptop.  When mine died I couldn’t afford to get a new one.  (I don’t use credit cards!)  I have been saving for one, and I have enough saved up now to buy one.  I’ll need one to take with me when Mark and I take our act on the road.  I’ve been giving some thought to what features I’d like my new laptop to have, and here is what I’ve come up with so far:

  • It needs to be sturdy since, as Mark tells me, there are some pretty rough roads in parts of the country.
  • It would be good if it had a long battery life.
  • It has to have wifi, which I’m told isn’t a problem these days; and if it had Bluetooth capability, all the better!
  • It’s definitely got to have a webcam and speakers built in (so I can Skype my family).
  • I’d like it to have at least one USB 3.0 port so I could try out the technology my daughter-in-law, Sarah, built for Intel.
  • It would be great if it had an Intel i5 core.  Don’t ask me what that is, because I don’t know.  😉  I just want it!
  • When I was thinking about riding around the country in my husband’s truck, I wanted it to be lighter than 5 pounds, but we’re thinking we might travel in our RV, so the weight limit isn’t as big of an issue.
  • The way I use my computers, it needs to have lots of memory, maybe 8-16 GB.  And it has to be fast.
  • I want the new Microsoft 2010 software.
  • Because I’ll be working on it in the front seat as we travel, I’d like it to have an anti-glare screen.
  • And it all has to cost less than $1000!

Can anyone suggest anything else that would be good for a freelance proofreader/copy editor on the go?
