Skim coating

I had yesterday and today off work.  Yesterday I did some mudding and then went with Mark on a business run to Green Bay.  I needed more supplies for the bedroom anyway.

Today I started with sanding the mudding I had done yesterday and then I started the skim coat.  This is something I’ve never done before, but I watched a YouTube video on how to do it, and they said it was easy and foolproof.  If so, I must be a fool!

By way of explanation, most people wouldn’t need to skim coat their drywall because it’s smooth, but this must have been a special kind of drywall made for gluing paneling onto:

There are all these pin-prick holes in the wall board and the skim coat is to fill them in so the wall will be smooth for painting.

By the time Mark got home for dinner, I was only this far:

Despite the smile, I was tired and discouraged.

Despite the smile, I was tired and discouraged.  I still had two and a half walls to do.

Mark and I sat down to dinner and I could barely stand afterward.  Mark told me I should knock off for the evening, and I said, “I can’t!  I wanted to have the skim coat done on all the walls by tonight.”  (I’m already behind schedule.  I’d really like to be able to move into the room by Sunday.)  Do you know what my dear, sweet husband did?  He had a bunch of things he needed to do this evening, but he helped me with the skim coating!

I could not have finished the room tonight without his help. Thank you, so much, Mark!

He’s doing his stuff now.  I think I’m going to go to bed!
